Anybody know where I can get fresh large scallops to cook up for Valentines Day? Rouses by my house has fresh scallops but they're usually small/medium at best. TIA

I've bought some nice ones at Whole Foods before.

Was coming here to post this too. They usually have a good selection of smaller bay scallops and larger sea scallops

Scallops at Rouses have never been appealing to me. They are always skittle-sized and sit in that milky water.

I’ve not seen the nice large sea scallops in a while at Whole Foods. Was told that they were not getting them right now (Christmas). Haven’t looked in a couple weeks.

Agree on Rouse’s scallops

Rouses seafood in general is the worst imho

Whole Foods is always my first check, fresh market second

I would bet that the “fresh” scallops you see in BR are actually thawed flash frozen scallops. Sam’s and Costco both have frozen sea scallops.

Just about all seafood/fish is flash frozen to get rid of potential parasites

You used to be able to get frozen good quality large scallops by asking at Colandros meat counter. They would open a bag in the back and give you the count you wanted.

I used to get large ones from Costco (8-12 size), but now they are 15-20 or similar, which is also what I've seen at other places. I looked this past weekend at Fresh Market, and they were larger size. But I wasn't cooking them on Sunday, so I didn't buy them.

Call Tony’s. They get them in once a week. They last only so long.

Rinse and dry scallops. Take the side muscle off and discard.

Dry the scallops again.

Salt and pepper, screaming hot cast iron pan for 45 seconds per side.

Enjoy with corn maque choux.
