Mystery of the Camry Dent. How do so many cars have the exact same damage?

I never understood this. I think all the blind, old LeSabre or Grand Marquis drivers switch to Camry's after Buick switched to making only SUVs and Mercury was canceled entirely. And these newer, smaller cars can't handle the damage like the old giant American land yachts that this demographic used to drive.

Or perhaps this is some kind of secret society among Camry drivers. Like they spot other people in this secret society based on what side of the bumper the dent is on.

But seriously - how do so many Camry's have the exact same type of accident? Is there a blind spot or something?

Do any of you have a Camry with a Camry dent? How did you get said dent? Did someone hit you or did you back into something?

It's not quite as common as under or un-insured Altimas with front end damage, but it's getting there.

It’s from hitting poles in parking lots. In a lot of cars, the plastic bounces back. However, Toyotas are built to crumble in an accident and absorb the shock so your body doesn’t. Thus, the plastic simply folds in rather than springs back.

It’s a design flaw that results in the vehicle being particularly susceptible to that damage

I had an old 98 ram 1500. Had a bunch of friends with Rams between 98-2010s. Everyone had the exact same damage to the passenger side of the dashboard where it had no structural support and doing anything to it would cause it to crack

They get hit in the same spot. Do you think this is somehow rocket science?

Camry, Corolla, Yaris all have same design flaw with wheel covers. The clips break off easy and they get loose. You can buy aftermarket ones with this fixed. Had mine go flying past me when I stopped at a red light once.

There was an older model Ford Explorer that would always have a crack in the body from the bottom of the rear window, around the emblem, to the rear door handle.

I think you’re on to something. Dated a chick and her mom had a Camry and of course the Camry dent.

Think she had 3 duis so that might be a factor but not sure.

They get them from backing into shite, usually other cars and trucks, in parking lots.

How do I know this? I had one back out of his space as I rolled down the lane looking for a spot. The corner of his bumper hit my truck right in the wheel. Zero damage to truck while his bumper corner was mashed as shown above.

I stopped and talked to the old boy and he said he wasn't worried about it. I said his wife might be when she sees it.

You’re suggesting only Toyotas are designed this way?
