Every other country has as bad or worse history. You have to learn from history, but you nuts want to live in the past every damn day. The country is regressing not progressing.

As said before, this isn’t an argument. You’re literally just saying well everyone else did it so it’s ok

And you're saying that our history of slavery is somehow worse than any other country's...which is moronic. Look into Brazil. Do you have any problems there? How about with the frickers in Africa that are still trading slaves today? No problems there, right?

It's just what was happening here two hundred years ago that needs to be pointed out again and again and again.

Name a country that doesn't.

That's not the point.

The point is that we were so fricking brainwashed into believing "America Great, Everyone Else Bad" growing up that it's almost impossible to break the hold that mindset has on people now.

So, when people start simply pointing out to our children in their curriculum that maybe the history of our country is more nuanced than what was previously taught, others get bent out of shape because everything they took at face value from their school days is turned on its head.

It's a natural reaction, and it's part of the reason the messaging has seemingly grown louder and more aggressive. To deconstruct closely held beliefs and worldviews is a tall task and most people shut down and won't listen.

That's why it's important that kids coming up now get exposure to the whole truth. We can avoid this rabid nationalism that's currently go a stranglehold on our country that causes people to think we can do no wrong and we're always the good guys. We're not. And that's OK because no one is ever always the "good guy".

Some of it has been, most of it has not been propaganda. Here is the thing about history, it’s a story, and with any story it can be embellished or exaggerated. This video is as much an exaggeration as GW not telling a lie or chopping down a cherry tree. There is no denying slaves contribution to the American story, but this country was not built on slavery.

Yes. Absolutely. Because the effects are still being felt and dealt with today.

It was less than 60 years ago that black people got the right to vote and were allowed to integrate into schools with white people. You really think things just magically got better when that happened? No. People still used the power they had left to skirt the rules and keep minorities oppressed (redlining, gerrymandering, etc.)

Pretending that slavery and the Civil Rights era are ancient history is damaging to the current cause of continuing to build a more equal playing field for everyone because doing so tends to antiquate the issues and cause apathy.

Oh bullshite. How are the effects still being felt today? If there is an oppressed person in this country right now, they certainly aren't black, gay, or female.

America Great,

I’ve never been taught this but it is what just about every nation on earth does outside of the us, and what every civilization has done throughout history. Did the ancient Romans, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Arabs, Turks, Russians, Germans, Africans, French, British ever think they weren’t the greatest nation on earth? Whether it be the Hebrews being Gods chosen people or the Chinese emperor being ordained by god and the Mandate of Heaven, or the ancient Persians who called all of their kings god-kings. Thinking your country is the best is pretty fricking normal apart from self loathing cretins who normally lean towards a particular ideology. Also I’d like you to just answer one question instead of calling everyone on this board maga tards. The one question I want you to answer is do you believe this country was built on slavery?because I never voted for trump for instance but still hate historical inaccuracies in children cartoons. Because that’s what this shite really boils down to. Not who someone voted for.

See this is a perspective argument. Are you correct that gerrymandering has disadvantaged minorities? Yes, but its a large leap to think that is reason for gerrymandering. Consider this, gerrymandering is not targeted at minorities but to disadvantage those seeking to take political power away from those currently in power. Redlinging is an issue, but is it an issue based on race or economic circumstances, today? The lens by which we view issues can significantly effect how we see problems and solutions.

It's only this way because most leftists run away when confronted with reality. This board was heavily left-leaning back when I got banned from THE ENTIRE WEBSITE for telling the truth about the Central Park Five here.
