Quito’s elevation is about 10,000 feet. I’ve known a few people that have visited, and they all say it takes some adjustment.

I'm not sure if I should share this knowledge, it might cause some minds to be blown.

It's called Ecuador because it's by the equator.

Y'all still have the tops of your heads?

They have some big ole spiders out in the jungle that'll mess you up if you get bit. They live in the bamboo thatch ceilings of houses and come out at night to hunt. Shine a flashlight around inside and you see their eyes reflecting all over like stars in the sky. Sleep inside beds with mosquito netting for safety. Sleep with an empty gatorade bottle to pee in if you wake up in the middle of the night, to avoid going out. 0/10 - would not recommend that particular experience. Guinea Pig is a somewhat popular dish in Ecuador. Not bad, pretty much tastes like chicken. Only spent a couple days in Quito. People were very friendly. Ecuador is the launching point for the Galápagos Islands which I didn't have the opportunity to visit but definitely want to do sometime down the road.

It seems like a pretty diverse country in terms of geography. I spent a few days in Guayaquil and a week in the Galapagos. Guayaquil is the second biggest city. There were some cool parts like the area on the waterfront and also some pretty interesting architecture. I assume they speak Spanish pretty well if they are considering moving there. Even in the tourist areas, English only spoken by some.

People over there walk around with leaves in their mouths. Like cows chewing their cud.

I knew some people who came here from the capital and they have nothing but bad things to say about it. I do believe they were dirt poor when they lived there though and lived in a very bad part of town. And very successful here

Ecuador has beautiful diversity in terrain, ranging from mountains, to dense jungles, to pacific beaches. Lots of fruit exports.

Quito is the capital, largest city - up in the mountains, high elevation

Guayaquil is the coastal port, second largest, with beaches nearby. Gateway to the Galapagos.

Cuenca is the stereotypical small colonial town, and very popular tourist destination. Located in between the mountains and the coast.

Ecuador and Peru are known for having fantastic seafood cuisine, with Asian influences. Best Ceviche you can find.
