I think Reeves has done a good job
I hope we aren’t stupid enough to elect anyone with a D by their name. Because just like JBE he will run on a moderate platform then govern however the national democrat party handlers tell him to

This is a state election year. The Democrat running against the current governor is a JBE-style moderate from the northeast part of the state (the most moderate area of the state).
The last Dem they threw at the governorship was the strongest Dem challenger they may have had for the next 20 years. Was also moderate, and also from the same area of the state.
Results? Swing and a miss.

Lumumba called out state leaders for the bill, comparing the state to “a colonial power taking over our city.” “It’s plantation politics. Every time there is mention of the city of Jackson, there is some parental force that they believe is supposed to be some overseer of the city of Jackson,” he said. “It is absurd. It is racist. It is all of those things.”
Two choices… they do it the state’s way, or they fix it themselves.
In his “racisssss!” Red herring… he fails to mention they are STILL missing a million dollars of Covid funds, they mismanageed the Seimens lawsuit money that was supposed to be used in fixing water system issues. and have spent other money on pet projects while the water system had problems.
So do it the state’s way…. Or take the hand back and fix it yourself. Simple easy pleasy.

There was a three man race for the primary. Reeves missed getting 50% by all of 1.2 points. Former Chief Justice and a State Rep from Desoto. Run off not a surprise.

How are either the water situation or crime situation Tate’s responsibility?
The Governor wields that power. It’s not his responsibility but it is Incumbent upon him to keep these cities safe and operating properly - which Jackson clearly isn’t doing.

Jackson mayor compares Capitol Complex expansion bill to apartheid, cites lack of accountability for residents
quote:
They’re talking about a court system in which the judges would not be elected by Jackson residents, would be appointed by the Supreme Court, a police force that has no accountability to the residents of Jackson,” Mayor Chowke Antar Lumumba said. “As we’re watching these challenges happen not only from Ferguson, but all across the country in which people are tasked with policing people but have no accountability to them, it reminds me of apartheid.”
quote:
“It reminds me of a colonial power, in where they dictate who’s our leadership, they put the military force over us, and we’re just supposed to pay taxes to the king. That’s all we’re supposed to do is pay taxes to the king,” Lumumba said.

You clearly don't understand governmental structure in Mississippi. The Governor has zero power over cities to "keep them safe and operating properly". He can issue disaster declarations and step in, but that's it. And there is a narrow set of rules governing disaster declarations. The governor can't just say "well. Step aside. Now I'm gonna run your city". This is why we have elections. If the citizens of Jackson want the current situation they have, that's what they'll vote for. If they want change, then that's what they'll vote for. Simple as that.

Jackson is the Somalia of the United States. Ilhan Omar would feel very much at home. Shitehole deluxe.

Generally Jacksonians don’t vote in large enough numbers to influence statewide elections.

Bill that would expand CCID, create court system sparks protest outside Capitol
quote:
“If you want to enjoy this black wealth, then you need to support this black city,” Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said.
quote:
“This is my 41st year on these steps and not much has changed from the first year to now,” Rep. Edward Blackmon Jr. said.
“Nobody else in this state is being asked to sacrifice their votes and their dollars to prop up a government within a government,” Blackmon Jr. said. “I call this CCID district, ‘New Jack City.’”
quote:
“Here we are in 2023 fighting battles of 1823,” said Pastor Hosea Hines of Christ Tabernacle Church. “Black people are the only people I know that have to re-win their freedom every day.”
quote:
“If you want to know what’s going on here, all you have to do is look at the map. The [proposed] CCID district captures every last white soul in the city of Jackson. There is a sea of black folks outside of the CCID,” said Cliff Johnson, director of the Macarthur Justice Center. “We know what this is about. It’s about what it’s always been about. It’s about race.”

I'm just saying...
People leave due to the reasons (we are here), houses plummet to bottom dollar, white liberal bums from every soulless reach in the nation come in and gentrify the place.
That's the Dem playbook for taking over a city, then threaten a state.
