Watching the ads associated with football play offs, I find zero purveyors of information that would cause me to purchase anything.

It's not about making you immediately going out to buy something. It's the subliminal messaging for the next time you are at the store buying sodas or need car insurance.

They’re not supposed to add value to society, they’re supposed to add money to the pockets of the company big wigs.

Yes they do. People buy things because of the ads, it keeps the economy flowing, and society does good.

It adds value for companies, which are part of society, obviously.

I hate it, especially with how repeatedly they play certain commercials. It gets old quick. That said, advertising is geared towards idiots. If you see an ad and let that sway you to buy a product without knowing anything else, you're an idiot. So, about half of America probably think ads are a reasonable thing.

You would likely not have a football game to watch without those dumb ads subsidizing your free viewing

NGL the Chipotle commercial on the game made me want to go there if one was around here.

Not this shite again.

You think TD stays up and running by the grace of government grants and pixie dust?

You’re standing on an ad-driven soapbox, shouting your disdain for ads.

Today’s advertising is more about feelings and emotion.

So one person not getting anything from TV ads is the litmus test.

Makes sense.

The only thing I get from advertising these days is that white men don’t exist except to be the lovable progressive homo or the disgusting criminal robbing a single mother.

There is no in between.

Then you don't understand marketing. You think they spend all that money to run ads just for the hell of it?

I don’t watch ads

If it’s YouTube or during sports I am playing on the phone until
I can skip the commercial

If it’s podcasts, I skip the ads on those as well

But you did watch something that allowed you to watch the game without paying extra for it. What is the value of free/ad subsidized entertainment to society? What about all of the free information and entertainment we consume every day on sites like TD?

Everyone hates ads until they have to start paying the real price of “free” stuff.

If they would let us customize ads to our liking it would be a lot more effective.

You don’t find it beneficial when you read an ad that tells you what time and channel the Super Bowl is on?

What about the ad that tells you there is a gas station at the next exit while on a road trip?

Never watched a movie trailer and thought, that might be good. I should check that out.
