Or has it always been a leftist propaganda machine?

Add taxpayer funded to propaganda machine and you nailed it.

Was, is and always will be worse than Washington Post or NY Times

I've never known it to be a legitimate news source, but older people may have different opinions.

I’ve listened to npr since the mid 90s.
It was always a left Democrat Party outfit but in long years past there was at least a semblance of effort to be reasonable.
It took a big lurch to the left during the Obama years.
It went so far left over the past few years that it’s completely fallen off the edge into Kookville.
Every day now it’s Marxist ideology, race baiting divisiveness, Democrat Party talking points, and damage control cleanup of anything that could weaken the official process/narrative.

First of all leftists are drawn to government media like flies are drawn to shite. NPR and PBS became dominated by leftists early on and after that leftists only hire other leftists.

I remember when it was referred to as "Radio Managua" because of their support for the leftist Sandinista regime of Daniel Ortega.

We called it National Pinko Radio since the 1980’s.

I think that there were some decent radio shows, specifically “a prairie home companion,” that Garrison Keillor hosted and produced which were quality productions that didn’t force political opinion onto their audience.
That’s all I got

Oh yeah, Science Friday used to be decent as well.

When I got sick real quick of ‘80’s hair band music I tried listening to NPR and I felt like I needed a shower afterwards

It always had a left wing bent, like all the media. And like all media it’s gotten worse in the last 15 years.
What NPR excelled at was shows like Science Friday, the trivia show, National Geographic Radio Expeditions, American Roots, Radio Lab and arts coverage. Even something like This American Life wasn’t as over too lefty as it is now.
I think what hastened the shift was when local stations like WWNO dropped the classical and jazz music and went all national talk. Too many of the same voices saying the same things.

Pre-Trump it was. Post-Trump it was not. Trump literally broke NPR.

NPR has always = Pravda.

This was a big step in it’s decline.

If you want to get people riled up, go here and choose any NPR Tiny Desk video, then comment on how awesome it is for your taxdollars to pay for NPR workers to enjoy a concert in the middle of a work day.

It definitely slings left but they have some good programs on there, not talking about the news. I dunno if they ever didn’t slant left leaning or not though
