My daughter will be studying in Tokyo this summer. She planned to live in an apartment with another student from her college. The student backed out of the trip. It's too late to sign up for a dorm, so she is looking into share houses. I'd love to get experienced opinions on share houses in Tokyo or any other experienced insight on living in Tokyo.

My daughter in 2006.

What’s the reasoning behind including a 17 year old picture? Strange.

Serious question, how much is the rent? My daughter is looking to go to Japan this summer. She may be able to help.

In 2003 my ex japanese wife had an apartment about 1 hour by train from downtown Tokyo. Her rent was 800 a month. The room was about 100-150 square feet. You couldn't sit on the toilet and close the door at the same time.

Left there in 2007 and haven't been back. I remember my friend moving to Chiba city because he said it was much cheaper. Also could consider Chigasaki, Hashimoto, or Sagamihara areas.

I’ve always considered this to be an OT thing.

I’m leaving for Tokyo three weeks from today actually. Any advice on picking up hot Japanese women when you’re a tall, white American who will definitely stand out?

Any advice

If you see one you like just say "excuse me" then ask for directions on how to get to Tokyo tower/Shibuya,Shinjuku, U.S. embassy etc...

Or go to Roppongi if you are a over 25. Under 25 go to Shibuya or Shinjuku area.

If she is studying abroad, is there not some organized program to help find her housing through the school?

Go to a karaoke bar. It will be like shooting fish in a barrel

It was limited to campus dorms. It's too late to do sign up for dorms now. It looks like she needs an apartment or a room in a share house.

I thought most karaoke bars in Tokyo have the private rooms you can rent out. I didn’t think it like here in the states where random people just get up and sing in front of everybody. No?

Surprised there is not an option to live and immerse yourself with a family there. My friend did that in kyoto.
