Message from Tate
Dear LSU Community,
This afternoon, police arrested four individuals following an investigation into the events preceding the death of LSU student Madison Brooks, who was struck by a vehicle on Burbank Drive last week.
Madison was a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a niece, a classmate, and a friend to many of you. By all accounts, she was an amazing young woman with limitless potential. She should not have been taken from us in this way. What happened to her was evil, and our legal system will parcel out justice.
Our collective grief and outrage cannot be put into mere words. So what can we do? It is time for action. One place to target our attention is the very place where this encounter began.
All but one of the suspects involved in this horrific scenario were underage yet were able to consume alcohol at a local bar. As such, our action plan starts with a deep and relentless focus on any establishment that profits off our students by providing alcohol to underage individuals. In the coming days, we will call a meeting with these business owners to discuss how their responsibilities directly impact the safety of our students. We will work openly against any business that doesn’t join us in efforts toward creating a safer environment for our students. Enough is enough.
Real and long-lasting solutions require multiple strategies, so we will not stop there. That is why I am asking our entire Baton Rouge community, from business leaders to citizens, to work together and join us in this effort. We will share additional action items in the coming days, but for now please join me in keeping Madison’s family in our thoughts and prayers.

Hey Tate can you also call a meeting with Broome, Paul and Moore to discuss all crime against LSU students?
Can you openly work against them if they don’t address your demands? Can you chat with the NAACP to see if they wanna get involved?

Tigerland bars bout to have to crack down on minor drinking. Otherwise they all gonna get shut down.

That’s a strong statement. Good for him

Not much, if anything, Tate or LSU can do to Reggie’s

Sounds like Reggie’s is getting put out of business

2 female LSU student deaths in the past 4 months. Unreal and nothing is going to change in the city.

It's the worst kept secret that Reggies sells to underage. When I was in school if you were old enough to drink you were too old to be at Reggie's

So Tate is blaming Reggie’s? What? How many underage kids get blitzed there weekly and don’t go through this? How about focusing on the crime running rampant all over Baton Rouge that nobody wants to look in the face and do anything about?
Blame the bar? Dude.
ETA: added the quote from him. His strongest stance in that article was underage drinking. That’s insane. It’s something basically every single college student does. That is not the problem here. There is a much bigger issue of criminals running around unchecked, and getting everyone riled up to take their pitchforks to Reggie’s and Fred’s is absurd.

Some college bars (not in BR) require a student ID to get in. That would eliminate a large portion of the trash going there looking for trouble. And isn’t it right that if a death occurs during the commission of a felony, don’t they get charged with that too? I know it could be tough to connect that.

Typical LSU blaming victim and bars for what happened. Way to go Tate and LSU. Take up for the criminals.

Ah yes, punish ALL the bar businesses around campus but not a single Mention or calling out the thug culture and community that embraces it and glorifies this type of rape and violence towards a girl.
Couldn’t possibly be the black kids and their white buddy’s behavior. It’s obviously every bars fault.

I don't even know what to say about this and I don't know why this young lady ended up alone with this shite bags, but I think it needs to be stressed to this young women that they should always stick together at night when going out.
Don't let someone with you go alone with someone they don't know or that they just met.
In no way am I blaming this young woman, but but with maggots like these out there you have to be as careful as possible.

When i was 17 at LSU. I went to Reggies to drink too. It was called Sports then. But Freds was for upper class and Reggies/sports for freshman.
