About a year ago I started drinking bourbon neat as a “night cap” after a Saturday of drinking beer throughout the day. I have since started drinking way less beer and more bourbon. Trying various brands and finding ones that I like better than others. Now, I want to have bourbon cocktails rather than a few beer on the weekend days.

What do y’all like to make with bourbon that will allow you to have a few during the day and not get hammered? I have had a few bourbon and soda drinks, and I like them, but wanted to get some other ideas.

I love bourbon now!

Ideally I like to drink 2-3 bourbons as a Jump start then head to beer. Problem is, after 2-3 bourbons I usually dgaf and drink 2-3 more instead of switching to beer and I end up ka-sayed

I’d probably go with 80 proof and if mixing, something like Jim Beam.

Favorite summertime cooler. Whiskey Soda.

20 oz styro cup filled with ice
Squeezed citrus of choice
Multiple shakes of bitters of choice
2 oz whiskey (use cheaper for this)
Top with Topo Chico or other such

Rinse. Repeat.

You wanna know how to day drink bourbon?

Get a 20oz styrofoam cup. Fill it to the brim with ice.

Fill the cup up with bourbon.

Add a few more cubes of ice after you do the “settle shake.”

Enjoy.

I will get way less hammered on neat bourbon than on bourbon cocktails because I drink cold things much faster than warm/room temperature things.

So my answer is, just drink neat bourbon.

Load up a flask or 2 and you’re good to go

When I am at hunting camp or playing golf (events that last a long time) I will just cut my bourbon with a lot of water. I will be hydrating while I drink. My Yeti 32oz tumbler might be ice, 3-4oz of bourbon, and then water. Plus I drink cheaper shite during that time because I am cutting with so much water. Then I move to better stuff at night when I want to drink a few.

I do enjoy cocktails, but a Jack and coke (zero now because I don'y need all the sugar) is still my go to drink. Every once in awhile I'll splurge with real coke.

If you want to day drink bourbon, then you find a good 80 proof to do that. In our neck of the woods, Old Charter is the Lord's nectar. Jim Black is also good. I'm easy. Bourbon, water, splash of Sprite on top for a lil fizz and flavor.
