Russell Wilson has contacted CSP; "He knows he needs fixing"

Denver Draft picks of note:
2023: 49ers 1st rd No 2nd rd picks and two 3rd rd picks (colts pick).
Most of their 2024 draft is intact.

“Russell Wilson has contacted Sean, legally, by the way, through channels,” Cowherd said. “He wants Sean Payton. He needs fixing. He knows he needs fixing.”
The pairing of Sean Payton and Russell Wilson with that defense could be an immediate kind of turnaround. The bigger deal is that with the richest owner in the NFL, they can snap the offensive line back in shape real quick in free agency. Even with the salary cap, Greg Penner could choose to be aggressive to work the cap with favorable signing bonuses to minimize cap hits. Teams have been using signing bonuses to manage the cap for years. The Broncos could easily free up $30M or more just by releasing Ronald Darby, Graham Glasgow, and Chase Edmonds. Fixing the offensive line is absolutely doable in short order, so relax on the salary cap concerns.
With all of the smoke building around Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos, it sure seems like he is the clear cut favorite at this point with several interviews still yet to take place with other candidates. Payton is also interview with the Carolina Panthers later this week, but Cowherd spoke about that too and why Denver should remain the more attractive option even with that interview.

Not much of a bidding war when it's only one team involved. Only thing I can see is if Cowboys get smacked against the 49ers then Jerry could make a move. No doubt he's already put in feelers to Payton's people.
Trade compensation with the Broncos. I would want:
2023 1st (from 49ers), both 3rd round picks
2024 1st

Doubt you get that much. With basically only 1 suitor, I think it goes...
1st this season
3rd this season
2nd round next year
1st this season
3rd this season
2nd round next year

I don’t know the first thing about this trade market, but I can only feel like you’re all setting yourselves up to be massively disappointed thinking they’ll get that kind of return.

Are you forgetting Carolina?

Payton went out and found an idiot owner willing to give him $25 million a year and then announced it to the public... basically telling all other owners with a brain to not bother

All 3 parties have to agree, and I don't see Sean agreeing to Carolina.
ETA... the price tag for Carolina would be big in draft picks. How does Sean get a qb with team trading away picks? Maybe brady or carr to Carolina makes it possible, maybe

I have my doubts that will get much more than this period still, you should be able to pick up 4 starters with those pics. Would love two 1st and two 3rds!

I get what you're saying, but the reports from both Denver & Saints FO was they already had an informal agreement on the price to send Sean to Denver (haven't seen similar articles about the other teams). And Mickey has said he's asking for something similar to what Gruden was traded for; 2 1sts & 2 2nds, plus $$$. So, that very easily could put what LSUZombie suggested, plus the 2024 2nd.
2023 1st (from 49ers), both 3rd round picks
2024 1st & 2nd
Would think it would be foolish for Loomis to make a comment like that, if he didn't already have an understanding with the teams approved to interview Payton.

Low key it's Sean's way of coming back and saints to trade for Wilson. Boom.

True. Coaches are traded every offseason so we have a gigantic frame of reference for this.

There was never going to be a bidding war. I keep hearing this. Sean was going to pick his team, and then that team would negotiate compensation with the Saints. Do you people really think Sean would pick two or three teams and then they would give competing compensation offers to the Saints? The only advantage of multiple teams looking for coaches, is that it is more likely Sean would get a job.

Reserving final judgement until we see how this shakes out, but so far he's coming across as the world's worst poker player.

Pete, this makes no sense.
It should go like this:
When a team asks to interview Sean, we don’t allow it until we agree on trade terms.
Then out of the teams that we agree to trade terms with Sean gets to pick.
That’s good business.

Isn’t that tampering? Lol

Even if so (which is unlikely) there is still no “bidding war”. The Saints have established a value for Payton’s contract. Having another team in the mix doesn’t raise that value. Sean will pick his team.
