Any of you folks ever ate at Rouxgaroux? I'm going to be in town Saturday and was thinking about getting a poboy for lunch. Is it worth it or will I be disappointed? TIA

I like it. The place is a hole in the wall, so be prepared for that. Food is solid though. Easily best Louisiana food we can get, though that isn't saying much. I get the surf & turf poboy and gumbo a lot. Some things can be on the pricey side, but i've never left disappointed. They usually have a special burger or sandwich as well that has been fantastic more often than not.

Overall I think it is solid and if you're craving that type of food, should hit the spot.

Echo Go Crazy’s thoughts. Good spot. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you are looking for a good poboy with a casual vibe.

Great spot to watch Saints games on Sundays as well. They aren’t usually open on Sunday unless the Saints are playing.

It’s Rougaroux, and what do you have to lose?

Thinking fried shrimp, or Oysters Rockefeller?

Thanks Guys, We will give it a shot on Saturday. As far as what I'll eat I'm not sure yet. Was thinking Fried oyster or shrimp, but that surf and turf looks pretty damn good.

Coworker is from Lafayette and lives close to there. He says it's the best shrimp poboy outside of Louisiana he's had. I still have it on my list, but haven't been yet.

Can't go wrong with either of those. I love the surf and turf partially because its kind of like getting a half and half bowl at Chipotle, you end up getting a little more of both options than truly half.

Whatever you get, hope you enjoy.

Is Crazy Cajuns still open?

I haven't been there in a long time but I remember the food being okay.

Think so. It wasn't my favorite. I like Cajun Seafood on Rocky Ridge better.

Yea it is still open. It is fine and if you are near it and feeling cajun food, it is good enough, but not worth driving out to ever.

Rougaroux is definitely a solid spot. Moved from Nola to Bham over the summer and have been 3 times. Have had much of the menu. Po boys are above average for a non-Louisiana based place. They aren’t gimmicky either. Pretty solid attempt at capturing New Orleans

It’s pretty good.

I was not impressed by the shrimp poboy. It’s just hard to find the same quality of shrimp you get in New Orleans anywhere around Birmingham except fine dining.

Crazy Cajun was a favorite stop in B'ham for years, went there last May and was very disappointed. I don't judge on one bad visit, staff shortages etc., will try again soon.

My few Birmingham friends, who visit Louisiana regularly, seem to like it.

Thanks again everyone. I'm going to Marks outdoors in the morning looking for a scope for a new rifle and plan on hitting up Rouxgaroux after that. I'll report back with what I eat and how it was.

It's awesome, honestly better than some of the food I've has in NOLA. It is expensive though imo.

I go there once a week and have for years as it is right near my office. My wife thinks I go as a call back to my days living in New Orleans but really I go because I love their roast beef. I don't know about now but they used to get their bread shipped up from New Orleans.

Judging by the pick posted earlier in the thread I would say they still do.

The play here is to go to Mark's, then cross the street and go to Diplomat Deli. We used to do this all the time when I was in sales.
