A hell of a producer, but looks like a homeless bum.

No.
I can go into the studio with bands and say "Hey you should write another song like "fill in great song here".
That doesn't take talent.
At one point, he was great.
Not now...

I’m a big Metallica fan who feels Rubin did little to nothing beneficial for the band while helming the Death Magnetic sessions. He was not asked back.

What? Death Magentic was exactly what they needed after years of Rock and then the St. Anger disaster.

I don't know if he is a "musical" genius, but he has certainly proven to be a talent and production genius.

He's produced a shite ton of records. some big hits, and some duds.

He's been responsible for a lot of best selling records. He can't play an instrument but he does have a knack as to creatively putting together records and those records being massive successes. Would they have been without him? maybe so but he's been associated with great records over the last 35+ years.

He put Kerry King on a Beastie Boys record... he's a genius.

I think the "Make Bielieve" album he did with Weezer is underrated as well... no comment on the work he did on the Red Album

Just visited the Johnny Cash Museum in Nashville and the Hurt video section was emotional. That album, song, and video doesn't get made without Rubin.

There is a reason the best musicians in the world ask to work with this guy. I'm in the camp that thinks he is a musical genius

Perhaps, but you could’ve told them so for much cheaper.

One of the best producers ever. Not a musical genius.

Of course he has flops. He can only work with the product he is given and make it the best it can be. But he's not a musician or a song writer.

He also produced 5 of my favorite groups of all time: The Cult, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Audioslave.

He basically formed Audioslave by getting the Rage members together with Cornell.

It was interesting to hear Mike D and Ad Rock talk about their early days as The Beastie Boys with Rick Rubin in the documentary/movie they did for Apple TV

They hung out with him all the time and he was trying to get them started while he was still living in a dorm in college
