Ban the purchase of all processed foods that contain fructose or high fructose corn syrup via food stamps.
Fructose is metabolized almost exactly like ethanol in the liver. 90% of fructose is converted to fat, as is ethanol. 10% is converted to energy.
The inverse is true for glucose (aka, dextrose in the grocery store). 10% is converted to fat and 90% to energy.
The more fructose and ethanol you cut out from your diet the slower you develop metabolic syndrome if at all. Metabolic syndrome is an umbrella term for several interrelated diseases, high blood pressure, type II diabetes, heart disease, etc.

Why not just ban food stamps? I grew up in poverty before food stamps. It was very easy to stay thin.

It amazes me what the government allows people on food stamps to buy.
Energy drinks, chips, ice cream, Slim Jim's, candy etc.....

If you are jonesing for fructose, get it from fruit. At least fructose in fruit is bound with fiber which helps release fructose into the bloodstream slowly.

This is the first time in history where the poor weigh more than the rich.

Coca-Cola has spent billions lobbying congress, and it isn't to get rid of sugar

But the doctors told me this doesn’t matter anymore. It’s my genetics making me fat, not the 25 twinkies I eat for dessert every night

Government should not be in the business subsidizing fat and all the diseases associated with being fat. But here we are.

I agree 100% that this is the problem. But banning food because it’s ‘unhealthy’ is unAmerican. Just another slippery slope created. frick that
