So, what makes you an introvert?

You are outgoing. You have no issue talking with people. You don’t mind large crowds, but only want to be a part of them in smaller doses.

I don’t really like talking to people when I’m at the gym because I want to focus on working out and don’t have anything to really talk about.

I must be an introvert.

I don't lack confidence, I just make the personal choice to spend my time alone rather than with you.

I used to avoid public spaces, but ever since I began to lift, BJJ and improve my cardio, I love public spaces. Once I gained confidence, I was fine.

Wow.

Edit: Okay, I'll bite. I'm introverted. Main reason is that I find most people uninteresting. People are mostly okay, not bad, but talk about mundane things mostly.

People that are unable to stop talking for 5 minutes I find very weird. Similar to how some cultures find excessive smiling to be weird

Not true. Society has just conditioned you to believe that. The only thing that is truly real is what happens inside of you as you experience life. Solo or with other people present. What happens “out there” is just an optical illusion of the senses. You are the one who gives meaning to it.

Some do. Some just don't care for the general public and the pointless small talk and pleasantries.

You get them one on one or in a small group where they are comfortable and they can be a completely different person.

This is me. Bigger crowd just means more idiots to avoid offending. That said, public speaking is actually a strength of mine. I turn that shite off at the end of the day and go relax at home in as quiet an environment as my kids will allow.

And they talk for 5 minutes without actually telling you anything. It's just blathering.

I enjoy spending a lot of time alone in quiet. I'd much rather hang out with just a few people than in large groups. My wife says it's amazing that when they are out of town I can go the entire day without speaking to another person, turning on the TV or radio or anything and be totally fine with it

The difference between an extrovert and an introvert is extroverts are energized through socialization and collaboration, whereas introverts receive energy from alone time or in social settings with much smaller groups

This.

I am an outgoing extrovert. I love people, I enjoy creating and developing relationships. I just get tired from spending time around people and have to recharge alone.

Some people are shy introverts, what OP may be describing. Some people are shy extroverts, or outgoing extroverts.

People just think that introvert = shy, not the case

Same idea - more of a, we're in the room together and you're doing some monotonous thing and I'm hearing your thought pattern about how to approach it

Introversion is a personality trait and it is robustly supported by the literature. It is not associated with lack of confidence Or self-esteem
