I see there’s plenty of ways to get to tulum from the cancun area resort, anyone got advice on that? We are staying at sunrise moon palace.

how much is there to do in tulum is it worth an all day trip? We have dinner reservations at ARCA at 5:30...it looks to be about 5 miles from the ruins area. Stupid question I guess but how do you get around there?

Taxi or car service. Both very easy to get.

No Lyft or Uber.

We normally just coordinate that with the resort once we arrive. The resorts spoon-feed then business so their rates are reasonable, they're up front about the pricing and know they have to be reliable to continue to get the resorts business.

They have private car services you can book in advance.
Renting a car is an option. It's pretty cheap too but they will put like a $3000 hold on your credit card.

I rented a car and was glad that I did. Drove out to coba ruins and got there before they opened up. Soon as they opened I hauled arse on the bike to the main ruin and climbed to the top and got to sit up alone and take it in about 15 min before anyone else.

You can take the bus, group or private transport from the airport, or you can rent a car. A lot of people rent cars, not sure on the cost though

I dont remember it being expensive. I used a company called isis car rental( no relation to the terrorist group).

Done this numerous times by booking private van in advance. Much cheaper than haggling with the idiots at the airport.

once you get to tulum though there are rides available around the area though right? From the ruins to ARCA for example?

yes plenty of rides but I prefer to not rely on someone else. its an easy area to drive. There are alot of cool things to do like just stopping on the side of the road at vendors or cenotes that you probably wont be able to do riding in a tour van.

Oh yeah… cabs are everywhere in Tulum. Negotiate price before getting in the car.. or agree to a number.

ARCA was really good. Can't really compare it to anything in the states but it was great. If my memory is correct Gitamo is very close by, (walking distance) Great place to go after dinner for a cocktail.

Here right now for a month - staying in Aldea Zama (newer neighborhood in Tulum). A lot of digital nomads and expats. It's a nice area, but heavily under construction.

If you have the time, I don't see why it's not worth an all-day trip... Dinner at ARCA is a good call, and that area of Tulum Beach is loaded with restaurants. Unless you have a car (which I wouldn't recommend when going to dinner), you have to take a taxi. Really isn't a way around it. Won't be cheap going from one hotspot to another, but you can negotiate your way through a bit.

Slight taxi side story: We got back to Airbnb after a late lunch yesterday and I left my fricking phone in the taxi. It was a disaster. Was able to call it and someone that spoke English picked up. Security guard at our hotel spoke to driver and he got it to us about 30 minutes later. He was so nice - didn't expect any pesos, but I gave him a decent amount, anyway. Gave security guard a little, too.

Was in Tulum in 2021. Has the cartel shite calmed down there? Seemed like a shooting every day. Right after we left, someone was executed while on a moped right in the middle of the hotel zone

I've used that rental car company as well. It's easy to drive there, but you must be VERY careful about observing every single law or you are an easy target for a shakedown.

Hmm... can't totally speak to it since I've been here. Haven't seen anything, but I've definitely been hearing that no part of Tulum is immune to it. I haven't felt totally unsafe, personally. I seem to have the right daytime walking/biking routes then will just taxi home if I'm outside Aldea Zama past dinner.

so we rented a car (there was a small rental place at the resort) and I’m glad we did. We left moon palace about 11am and got to the ruins about 1. Hired a guide and saw the sights then rode around downtown for a bit then went to the beach road. Holy shite that place is wild, like a Yucatán blade runner scene. It was hilariously awesome

Dinner at ARCA was incredible. We walked around the beach road for a while then headed north, arrived safe and sound about 930

once you get the hang of Mexican driving it was fine LOL.
