Any OT vets out there?

I noticed my dog has been hobbling. He's not wanting to put his weight on his back left foot some of the time. He has been walking on it a little bit, albeit with a limp. He's a 5 LB Maltese. Is there anything I should check? I looked at his leg and his foot, it doesn't appear that there is a break, but I'm not really sure. Should I just take him to the vet now or maybe wait a little while to see if he gets better? I don't want him to stay hurt, but at the same time, it seems like it comes and goes. He was playing earlier after I noticed him hobbling.

give it a week. Unless its gets worse.
if it were broken you'd know. The fact that its intermittent lameness would make me be more patient with it.

Small dogs have knee issues. That's all I got. Take the pup to a vet.

I'm a veteran of the OT since 2004.

Never ran across anything like this while I was in the Navy, sorry this Veteran could not help.

Check his toe nails. Sometimes they can get sneaky ingrown nails that can bother them. It happened to the chihuahua I used to have. He acted like he was on his deathbed.

There's nothing a veterinarian can diagnose online with a physical injury like that. They need to see him.

How's his attitude, would you consider your Maltese cross?

Did you check his nails? If I go too long between trimming one of my dog’s nails, he will split it and limp around for a while until I catch him and cut it for him.

My dog just one day couldn’t put any weight on his leg without screaming bloody murder, and he’s pretty tough. It bothered him for a couple of weeks to the point where he wasn’t eating much and was generally very lazy and standoffish. Didn’t know what to do, so I just quit throwing the frisbee and ball with him and let him rest. After about a week and a half he was perfectly fine. No clue what happened

ACL tear. Once had a Yorkie that had one.
Little dogs are also subject to subluxation of the patella.
Good luck

Sounds like arthritis or possibly an acl type injury

Probably rheumatoid arthritis caused by the rabies vaxx. I keep all my pets pure blood.
