it's a shame Purdue couldn't challenge LSU

how much can you take away from that game? JD will always look good against the weaker teams. His last 3 games last year against the good programs were not good and I wanted to see him respond against good competition. He got everyone excited after the 2 big wins midseason and then fell off.
And while I thought Nussmeier looked really good, again, it was against poor competition.
the big difference between the 2, besides arm strength, was that Nuss was able to find receivers quickly on a lot of his dropbacks and deliver the ball, something Daniels still struggles with.
still, it was like the game against Southern. what did you really learn? I guess we can chalk it up to a good practice game.

Is that JD protects the ball and Nuss doesnt. Oh also one of them led us to a West division crown and was voted team MVP.

Had Purdue challenged LSU people who have an axe to grind on JD would have criticized how close the game was.
LSU blows them out and the focus now shifts back to two games that he was injured and one game where he had the flu midweek.
I am not saying that the performances against Arkansas, Auburn and aTm (pre injury) don't matter but c'mon....you have to look at a bigger picture than just the game that align with your agenda

Imagine throwing a pick in the end zone against an easy team you should look good against.

Anyone else noticed that after the Nuss initial TD drive Daniels started slinging it too?

I noticed that once LSU established their dominance up front and ability to run the ball at will, with no answer from Purdue whatsoever, the play calling loosened up all the way around on the offensive side.

In general, this group could ever be happy with anything lsu does.
Had we struggled, Stephendomally would have been happier.

We needed more bitching about Daniels. Thanks for providing it.

Purdue never had a chance. My fear was LSU coming in flat but CBK had them spooled up and motivated them. Missing DL guys had me worried too, but the scheme they had for Purdue was good.
Not too mention, the Purdue QB that sat out to get ready for the NFL, that really hurt the team. I don't like it when RB's, WR's, and defense players sit, but the QB is the heart of the offense. That decimated them.

Nuss spins it well and is a pure drop back passer. There are lots of guys who do that, but can't lead a team to victory.
Jeff George had as much pure arm talent as anybody in the hisory of this game. He had a cannon and could make all the throws. Off schedule, on schedule, it didn't matter. He looked spectacular, and was drafted as the #1 overall pick by the Colts in 1990. In short, he couldn't stop trying to force the ball into double coverage. He sucked. He threw for more interceptions that TDs.
In retrospect, George looked great in college against sub-standard teams, but could never win against he really good teams.
Is Nuss more like Joe Burrow or Jeff George?
Daniels is the "safe" option. He's not going to turn the ball over and he'll win the games he should win. LSU won the Natty in 2019 because they opened up the offense and took risks. Can you see Les Miles allowing Joe Burrow to make all those back shoulder throws when we were up by two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter? No. He would have resorted to smash mouth football and run out the clock for 3 quarters.
Which option is going to win us more games? Nuss is likely to have higher highs and lower lows in the passing game. Nuss will never be that guy who tuck it and run for 30 yards if nobody is open. Not only can Daniels do that, but he really improved as a passer as the season went on, and was nowhere near as badd as people him out to be.
Unless Nuss is the second coming of Joe Burrow, we are better off with Daniels, IMO. Burrow made a big leap from year 1 to year 2. I don't think Daniels will make that big of a leap, but I think he can make incremental leaps that make him more effective.
Quite frankly, more dual threat QBs have carried their teams to championships than pure passers. Tebow, Newton, Vince Young, Deshaun Watson, and even Matt Mauck have had great success as dual threat QBs.

This is how meaningless bowl games will be....and LSU is not immune.
Season ending scrimmages can be ugly.
