2003-2011 LSU had 6 years with 2 losses or less. 2012-2022 only one

I miss the football teams from the early 2000s. We had 6 years out of 9 where we had 2 losses or less.
Since then, in an 11 year span, we've only had one season (2019)
People can hate on Les miles as much as they want, but we had some great teams and great recruiting

The spread offense, and its widespread adoption was a great equalizer.

You do realize he was still the coach from 2013-2016?

Lol no. The great equalizer was Les Miles stubbornness and Ed O.

SEC is harder most years now than it was in the 2000's.

Check LSU’s recruiting rankings against the rest of the conference in each of those periods. I think you will find your answer.

The loss to Bama left LSU football in a hangover.

Starting in 2006 the schedule changed from 11 games to 12 games.
Not an excuse, but certainly a factor. Also made the "10-win season" less impressive.

I miss that football. Where “Blue on Black” by Kenny Wayne Shepherd was the official song of LSU football coming to whip your arse.

I don’t think the 12-game regular season is much of a factor. We were already playing a power 5 OOC opponent most years under the 11-game format. The extra game just added another cupcake.
I think the reality is pretty simple - 2003-2011 was the most successful 9-year stretch in LSU history. In fact, no other team was more successful than LSU (getting to 3 national title games and winning 2) during that period. The closest would be Oklahoma (went to the BCSCG 3 times and lost all of them) and Florida (2 appearances, 2 titles).

Agreed, very impressive time and proud to be a Tiger. They went 97-22 in that stretch. Including 9 losses in 2008 and 2009 which makes the rest of the years at 13 losses even more impressive.

Absolutely, most SEC teams caught up and most have solid coaches and recruiting nowadays.

If we are being honest the 2011 natty was the decline till 2019 of the lsu program...after les never adapted his losses started piling then he got fired. Then O gets hired he did well up until after he won the natty after that you know the rest...CBK is what Lsu needed regardless if he wins a natty (which I think he will) or not he brings stability to a juggernaut program.
