Could a familiar face return to New England in 2023 to guide the offense in the right direction?

Sources say Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is a strong option to return to his former home and assume his old role as OC under Bill Belichick for next season. This would be a potential answer to an important question facing the Patriots in the future.

O'Brien has been the Crimson Tide's OC for two seasons under Alabama head coach Nick Saban and will call plays against Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Eve.

The Patriots offense has been a source of frustration all season, with quarterback Mac Jones expressing exasperation on the field in high-profile moments and Belichick facing constant questions about the Patriots' struggling offense. In one interview with WEEI on Dec. 5, Belichick said, "I think we need to do what we're doing better. I don't think at this point making a lot of dramatic changes ... it's too hard to do that."

The article forgot to mention Saban is processing him.

Would probably be the best hire the pats could make, all things considered. Not the most exciting hire, but they need an adult in the room offensively. Could do good things for Jonnu/Henry, and either give a valid make or break season with Mac, or also keep the door open for TB or another vet instead. Pats need to implement more RPO concepts, and bring in some reinforcements at tackle, and hopefully a true #1. Meyers would go to another level if he wasn’t playing that WR1 role and getting all the attention

Would be a devastating loss for the tide. He’s done a great job for them. Now Saban and Jimbo will be fighting over OC candidates

Suddenly won’t get Rece pushing him for every SEC West head job opening.

Funny how that works

True. All the others on the Saban rehab, Lane, Sark, BOB, Butch, at least had been somewhat winners at previous stops. Kliff is a loser. Period.

Probably not. But there’s a non zero chance of it happening. There’s legit smoke from national and local reporters that it’s an option on the table for TB. I wouldn’t be shocked given the fence mending that appears to have been going on the past year between the two parties

Mike Locksley was one of the worst head coaches in the history of the FBS at New Mexico, so this isn’t a universal rule.
