Mom Kicked Out of Rockettes at Radio City Due to Facial Recognition

When Kelly Conlon arrived at Radio City Music Hall to watch the Rockettes’ “Christmas Spectacular,” she never expected to be turned away. But that’s exactly what happened, with the mother's story adding to burgeoning concerns about the use of facial recognition technology.
The weekend after Thanksgiving, Conlon and her daughter headed into New York City on a Girl Scout trip to see the show. While everyone else in their party made it through security, Conlon was immediately stopped.
According to her recollection, it all happened very quickly upon her going through the metal detector. “I heard over an intercom or loudspeaker,” she told NBC New York. “I heard them say woman with long dark hair and a grey scarf.”
She said security guards told her she was picked up by the venue’s “recognition,” referring to facial recognition software. She was removed from the venue while her daughter and the rest of the troop and parents went inside.
It was later revealed that the reason Conlon was not allowed into the performance was because she works as an attorney for a New Jersey-based law firm that is involved in personal injury litigation against MSG Entertainment, which owns Radio City. Conlon says she is not personally involved in any cases against the company.
The company says banning Conlon is in line with its guidelines. “MSG instituted a straightforward policy that precludes attorneys pursuing active litigation against the Company from attending events at our venues until that litigation has been resolved,” an MSG Entertainment spokesperson said in a statement. “While we understand this policy is disappointing to some, we cannot ignore the fact that litigation creates an inherently adverse environment. All impacted attorneys were notified of the policy, including Davis, Saperstein and Salomon, which was notified twice.”

I saw where they issued those notices to opposing counsel but didn’t know they enforced them to that extent. Damn.

I mean… if I was having a birthday party for my son and his buddy little Jimmy’s dad was suing me for some reason little Jimmy wouldn’t be invited and neither would his PI attorney dad so I don’t see a problem.

She isn't t involved in the case and isn't licensed to practice law in the state of New York. She just happened to work for a firm that represents someone in litigation vs MSG. The firm is involved in a lawsuit against an entity in another state that MSG didn't even own at the time of the alleged incident-they acquired it later. Seems pretty petty and vindictive, considering how far down the roster they had to go for this lady to even be on their radar.

Radio City Music hall has access to facial recognition technology that can instantly identify someone and pull up their entire life story including employment and then cross reference that against a set of rules and then alert someone to a match on one of those rules?
And we’re all just going to gloss over that like it’s no big deal?
Radio City Music Hall just used crazy advanced scifi dystopian technology in real time and we’re squabbling over stupid lawyer jokes?

I guess it's all about the perspective of what the technology will be used for.
People are banned from establishments all the time for countless reasons.
I would support that technology at places like Walmart, Home Depot, etc where thieves are costing retailers millions of dollars every month. And that shrinkage is ultimately passed on to paying customers.
I'd also support these retailers' ability to share this data so thieves will be identified and stopped when walking in a Target if they've been caught on camera stealing from a Walmart.
That would be a huge win-win for capitalism and consumers. But is it an invasion of privacy? Who would be the Gatekeeper of that incredibly sensitive and valuable data? I don't know the answer to that.

Yep, specifically mine and my family’s.
The scenarios you put forth are good ones. But I don’t think it’s worth it to me to have the face of me and my family scanned and run through a database without my permission just to go fricking shop. That’s just me.

I agree with that.
They'd aka big brother/big tech would have to somehow prove to the public that facial data would be scanned and compared to flagged profiles, but not not stored. This is how LA licenses are supposed work at places that scan your ID. Your ID is scanned to return a value of 'valid' or 'not valid'. Do you trust that they are not storing that scan data?
No clue how they'd achieve that.

The Gatekeeper is the NSA as well as dozens of govt and connected left wing private businesses.
Do you think it coincidental that mask mandates kept BLM operatives from being detected by this technology

No. I think the technology is absolutely abused and misused by govt agencies.
Just wondering how it'll be used by private sector and how the government will 'help out'
