Amazon in final talks for the rights to the game

Warhammer Community update

Cavill is a huge fan of the franchise so it's cool to see him so involved with the project. Would rather it have been on HBO but as a fan of the universe I'll take whatever I can get.

Article says Amazon is in talks for the rights to the game, I'm assuming this means rights to all potential Warhammer shows

For those wondering what Warhammer 40k is about
quote:

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor of Mankind has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the master of mankind by the will of the gods and master of a million worlds by the might of His inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the vast Imperium of Man for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day so that He may never truly die.

Yet even in His deathless state, the Emperor continues His eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in His name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst His soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever-vigilant Inquisition and the Tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat to humanity from aliens, heretics, mutants -- and far, far worse.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

A little taste of Warhammer 40k

If Cavill is the EP, then it will likely stick very closely to any source material.

I'm sure he has been going mad watching great stories, characters and IPs ge he's been a part of go to complete shite over the years and now he has some control over one and he'll do it correctly.

And we saw how that worked out for the Witcher.

Done just right, the 40k universe coming to TV could be rad as shite.

Cahill or no Cavill, I have no faith they will do it just right.

I think choosing the right story to be the jumping in point will be vital.

I don’t really care for the way this sounds.

Yea the way the article phrases it confuses me. I think it means the rights to fil/tv.

There's a few things they need to not frick up

The scale and all aspects of it. Don't frick up the size of battles, the size of Space Marines, and the amount of time it takes for shite to happen.

Don't tone down any of the themes. There's A LOT of hate and xenophobia in the universe, that's the fricking point. Don't lessen just how awful every fricking faction is.

And for the love of God don't tone down the violence.

Is Amazon incapable of producing original content? i hate seeing them instantly destroy franchises that creators worked their butts off to make successful.

It depends on the showrunners a lot more than the service. Amazon did just fine with The Terminal List, and Disney knocked it out of the park with Andor.

HBO has put their share of crap out, too.

Aren't the humans supposed to be white racist imperialist jerks in this game series?

That seems like something Amazon will absolutely knock out of the park.

This is the part that I expect them to frick up, because they won't be able to help themselves. 40k has no truck with the modern "the only real crime is hate" mentality. In 40k humans hate other races viciously and reflexively, and they are right to do so, because those other races hate humanity just as much, if not more, in return. Hatred and xenophobia are literally what allow humans to survive in a galaxy where everyone wants to kill them. I just can't see Amazon being willing to go all in on that angle, and if they don't - if they try to change it so that the Imperium is strictly evil, without acknowledging that its harshness and brutality are also the only things that allow humanity to survive in the galaxy at all - then the whole "grimdark" of the setting is lost.

The Imperium of Man is a brutal and horrible regime but one of their bright spots is they don't give a shite about the color of your skin...unless you're a xeno. White, Black, whatever, we're all meat for the meat grinder.

Perfectly said. My biggest concern honestly.

Maybe we’re going to get the grimpdark, buddy comedy we never knew we wanted.

Slaanesh and Tzeentch, the Prince(ss) of Pleasure and the Lord of Change respectively, going around putting prudes and cisgendered males in their place, all while falling deeply in love with each other as they “explore” the “Great Rift.”

Hmmm I wonder he need the right story.. Henry Cavill as Caliphas CAin? Would not only be able to be himself without special effect cause the dude is built, but you take a tour of the Warhammer 40k universe.

That way he can do Sister of Battle, Space Marines, Orks, Nekron while from a personable POV in the Imperial Guards, just regular people like us. And most importantly, he don't want to be there.

Yeah, while Space Marines are the poster boys of the universe, I think something dealing with the Guard would make for the better story.

I love the Guard and I think a Gaunt's Ghosts series would be fantastic, until I stop and think that it would basically be The Pacific with aliens. Which I do absolutely think would be rad as frick, but maybe not for an audience not already familiar with the universe. Space Marines, same way. They're awesome but all they do is fight, and then sit around being moody until the next fight.

To make this series work I think it needs to focus on an Inquisitor.
