I mean if there's no moisture there's nothing to freeze
This is extremely dry air we will be dealing with, south of north AL/TN there isn't hardly any chance of precipitation and even in that area it's unlikely to amount to much
Places like Kentucky and northwards? They may have some things from what I understand

Those WY people are made for this. Have a story from our old Field Superintendent who used to go up to Lusk,WY in deep winter. His first trip, he made himself a sandwich and brought an orange for lunch. Kept it in his truck. It's -25F out. Lunch time comes, the sandwich and the orange, frozen solid. From then on, any winter trips to WY included an ice chest...to keep his lunch from freezing.

Look up youtube videos on Yakutsk. I think it's the coldest inhabited...town...village...community...thing...in the world. Average temp 17.6F. Kids go to school until about -40. Like 8 year olds walking to school in -25 like it ain't shite. Dogs rule the town as well.

People go to Wyoming and Montana in July and think, “The weather is amazing! We should move here.” A year or two later, they’re scurrying back home.

it’s really not that bad you just can’t go cheap on your winter gear

NWS Huntsville has issued a Wind Chill Watch for Friday, the first they've ever issued. NWS forecast is now 16°/7°. I'm taking the under on the high. 15-20mph winds after midnight, which would make for somewhere around -13° wind chill.

well, at least we're not Wyoming.
I lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming for almost 3 years. I remember it being 2 degrees with a wind chill of -18 in February.

First two Nam 3km runs that extend long enough to see anything keep the chance of some very light winter precip alive for the northern half of Louisiana on Thursday afternoon and evening.
FV3 is a hater as expected as GFS is too

Yeah, it’s going to rain here most of Thursday then have a flash freeze with change over to snow. The actual snowfall is predicted to only be a couple of hours so it will be like 2-6 inches depending where you’re at in state. We’re supposed to get 2-4, I believe.
Then -20 to -25 wind chills.

That's because they put warnings out for everything now. I promise you back at Christmas 1989 and 1983 the wind chill was -10/-20 here in Mississippi. On the 23rd in 1989 it was 2 with a 10-20 mph wind. That equals a -15/-20 wind chill. I

We have a shot a breaking the daily record for lowest high temp set in '89 on Friday here in North AL.

It going to get into the low 40’s here over the weekend. I’ll probably have to go to the gym to exercise.

Out of curiosity I was doing some looking into the deaths related to the 1989 cold wave.
There were many older people who died of hypothermia, a lot in their homes.
In Louisiana, two different 13 year old boys seem to have died from falling through ice on partially frozen ponds, one in Clinton and one in Slidell. I don't know how reputable the site I found is, so it may have counted the same boy twice. It used the exact same wording for both deaths.

I know of one in Clinton area. I thought it happened in 1990, but I could be wrong about the year.

TBG it's true about it being a dry cold. I was out in far west Texas on a day when it was about 15 and I was fine with just a fleece top. Caveat, there was no wind and the sun was shining.
