Cities were given the option to opt out of recreational sales within city limits, not determine whether or not it was legal to possess cannabis in their city.

Ah, didn't know that.

I just knew that we have an office out there and one of the guys always complains about having to drive to Manitou Springs to buy.

Well, of course civil rights are calling for an investigation…that’s how they make their living!

Yeah, the Colorado Springs decision was great for Manitou.

Smell of marijuana isn't enough to conduct a search in CO.

Drug-sniffing police dogs in Colorado may need new training if they can detect marijuana, after a ruling last week by the Colorado Court of Appeals that sets a new precedent for drug cases.

A three-judge panel agreed that if a drug-sniffing dog is trained to alert officers to marijuana and other drugs, cops need more cause to search a vehicle without permission.

Key part with linked article is that dogs trained to point out smelling multiple different drugs that also included marijuana in said training no longer shows enough cause to search vehicle. I am guessing training points out any of the drugs trained on without any distinction and possible to pick up something now no longer illegal. If dogs’ training excludes marijuana the searches for hidden illegal drugs pointed out by dog are back on.

Also if other factors involved search also back on.

Not sure with OP on how marijuana was picked up or if a search was requested before confrontation versus just asking to get out of vehicle, but it came across more as cops after pulling a car over for not having a license plate smelled scent of smoked weed on driver and also saw a knife in vehicle. They then asked driver to get out of vehicle which was refused resulting in the confrontation. If those are enough to ask someone to get out of car this is just someone playing victim.

Even if you think the cops are wrong with their commands, you still need to comply. Arguing and fighting with them will only lead to trouble. It`s very obvious a lot of these guys want a confrontation so they can possibly sue the police and get the officer fired.

Give up your rights and comply. It will make it easier on you. Until it doesn’t

Come to the school where I work and you can witness countless examples of similar defiance on a daily basis.

Funny thing is, an identifiable subgroup comprising 32% of the student population accounts for approximately 82% of the disciplinary infractions - but we're not allowed to mention that, right?

But he was pulled over for no license plate, not suspicion of DUI

I guess the weed was smoking itself

My comment was strictly about a search, not so much on this specific stop.

The police had a reason to conduct a stop. I watch a lot of videos about police interactions on YouTube that the cop can ask him to step out due to his personal safety. Of course officers abuse that a lot and just want to order you around but he was justified in asking here. Acting like he did to begin with never helps you when dealing with the police.

He was tired of dealing with troopers who pulled him over for a bullshite reason and then delayed him over an hour.

He had been nothing but polite and cooperative until the sgt trooper started threatening to take him to jail for carrying money.
