Shocking that the news article doesn’t quote the full letter with context, and just pulls out the part that makes the manager look the worst.

They also altered the quote from the letter to remove “and can’t say” from the part about family emergencies.

I bet they don't miss work anymore.

So true. You can get so much more out of people by using the smallest of incentives to influence their behavior.

the bottom line here is that Olive Garden is now out a solid manager because they are scared of bad publicity.

This is the correct answer, but many here will never see this.

I appreciated her work ethic but not so much on her communication skills.

Some kids need to be treated as kids. When you miss your shift because you are hungover you frick the whole staff.

A company I worked for decided to open a retail store. I was given the task of making it happen, with the goal of franchising it. It was the worst period of my professional life. I cobbled way thru it and got the store going, but good god. Retail workers suck. They don't show up, or they leave. They quit without telling you. They steal shite and deny it when there is literally no other option. They surf porn on company property. They ignore basic tasks. When I would find someone somewhat reliable, I got them on salary as quickly as possible (ironically, they could have made MORE as hourly, but they viewed salary as being better) and just looked past the little warts like surfing for porn if they showed up and didn't steal. In a 3 month span, I think I hired and fired and hired 15 people for a little store that only ever had 1-2 people on hand at a time.

I'm all about a good work ethic, but at the same time, I'm not eating at any restaurant where the workers are visibly ill.

The soyboy, "everyone gets a participation trophy", reactions in this thread are hilarious and part of the death knell of this country.

You all need to go get testosterone injections.

I'm picturing her proofing her message one last time, grabbing her coffee mug, sitting back, nodding to herself for putting these kids who "don't know what it's like" in their place, and clicking send - feeling totally satisfied with a job well done. Then came the call from HR.

The amount of non-working, unreliable people in this thread that think it’s perfectly ok to just not show up, just because they don’t feel like it, when other people (a TEAM) are counting on them is alarming..

What is happening to this country? Is everyone so wrapped up into themselves that this is becoming commonplace? Do people not have pride (not the gay kind, there’s plenty of that going around these days) anymore? Do people not give a shite about keeping their word and fulfilling their obligations?

I don’t know man… this shite isn’t cool, but I know I’ll get blasted for my opinion

Restaurant service continues to suffer since COVID, it's like most with any ounce of training at waiting tables left the industry and never came back. Both the wife (nopics) and I waited tables in college and were damned good at it, so we know the difference between issues in the kitchen and shitty waitstaff.

This also falls onto management for being shitty as well. No manager worth their paycheck should be okay with wait staff being in the back except for getting something for one of their tables.
