Ph.D’s are a dime a dozen. Only M.D.’s should be allowed to call themselves “doctor”.

Always tickles me that the people who argue this never actually have a Ph.D

Barney Fife referred to himself as “Barney Fife, M.D.” once when he and Andy went to the big city.

ETA or maybe he went full on "Bernard Fife, M.D." I can't remember. Anyway, I don't think it's right we've got a bunch of medical providers running around using the initials "M.D." who never wore the badge and did their part in making Mayberry the most crime free place in the entire country.

I work with some PhDs in an engineering firm. None refer to themselves as Doctor.

Why haven't the woke cancel culture eliminated "doctor" anyway?
They've cancelled most every other term.

Depends on the setting, but for the most part only use DR in a professional setting. Any other time just introduce yourself as your name.

Isn't this mostly Chiropractors and other "wellness" type people who do this?

To me it's no more irritating than all the fricking pretend doctors(nurse practitioners, etc) that call themselves providers. Providers is the new word for pretend doctor.

If you have a PhD or a doctorate, you're a doctor, you earned the title.

Its mainly women. I'd bet 80% of the non MDs who use it like its a royal title are chicks.

I propose a simple solution:

MD or DO should refer to themselves as Doctor.

Veterinarian should refer to themselves as Dogtor

Chiropractor should refer to themselves as Quacks

Foreign (Caribbean) medical school grads should refer to themselves as Foctor

Male Chiropractors and medical intuitive types. My wife has a friend who just started referring to herself as Doctor whatever. She has clients who come to her and she senses what's up with them and gives them advice on it. All of her clients call her doctor, and they pay her. For some reason she can't take insurance though. Read that back to yourself baw. I have to read it twice and I typed it.

Same if you have a JD?

Only MDs should be addressed as doctors. They’ve mostly been through a more challenging 4 year degree followed by a residency.
