Brees and Payton covered a lot of deficiencies in this building

What if the hoodie and Brady left NE within a year of each other?
I bet NE would collapse as well.
Sean and Drew were so good at what they did, that it masked a lot of faults that others had.
Now we just have a bloated roster and salary cap, and the guys we did it for, are gone.
We thought we could keep it going without them. We were horribly wrong.

Well, for one thing they filled the void at the positions of head coach and quarterback that are now voids again.

I don't think that Brees and Payton covered deficiencies. They were just that good. Sean Payton was simply the greatest coach that has ever coached this franchise.
I supported the Dennis Allen hire because it kept a lot of the staff and structure in place. But to put it plainly, Dennis Allen doesn't have the chest to be a head coach. And Pete Carmichael has gotten really stale. It's just time to make a wholesale change in philosophy.

Brees and Payton created a lot of the deficiencies that we see now. Our cap is in shambles because we kept trying to compete in the twilight years of Brees.
Also, when you replace an alpha dominant coach that wants to control everything in the organization with a beta bitch cuck who wants to blankly stare off into the distance, you get the 2022 Saints.

Kept "trying" to compete?
Drew's last 4 years:
11-5 Minnesota miracle
13-3 No call
13-3 Minnesota OT
12-4 Jared Cook fumble
Outside of 2011, his last 4 years were the closest we ever got to winning another SB. Everyone in the organization knew they finally had a roster to make a legit run after that 2017 draft. They would be stupid not to do everything to keep the train rolling for those last few years. If the FO sat on their hands and allowed us to go 10-6 or 9-7 because of "the future" you'd be screaming incompetence for them to let Drew fade into obscurity without making another run. Or at least I would.

They were competing. This team got screwed on a call in one game and by a fluky play in another.
If there is one place where I think one of them screwed the team, it was Payton not securing an heir to Bress via the draft and then abruptly hightailing it when he no longer had a great QB.

Payton had a lot to do with this

We will never see the success we had again.
It is over.
Lord thank you for letting us have our day in the sunshine.
Many old NOLA men will sit around telling stories about Drew and Payton to their grandkids for years to come.

I don't know about this assertion...
I don't think there are many organizations in any business arena that have excellent leaders at every level.
Payton "covered" a lot of "deficiencies" by demanding and getting excellence. He did that by being excellent himself and holding others accountable to that standard as well!
It is imperative to have those traits in the highest leader in an organization. That leader instills and "forces" those qualities to be demonstrated by those in the organization or they're gone!
It took him a few years to really grasp the necessity of this, keeping his buddy Gary Gibbs on far too long, but from that point onward it was "do your job or find another job"!
If you fumbled too often, you were benched (Mark Ingram 2016) and then learned the lesson! (Can't play, can't showcase talents for future contracts!)
If you committed a STUPID arse penalty like ones we've seen this year from a handful of players (Chris Harris' Personal Foul late hit OOB on MNF comes to mind), you were BERATED on the sideline and possibly benched.
If you couldn't keep the snap count you were loudly "corrected" on the sideline and possibly benched.
Payton RARELY yelled at the refs when his players fricked up--even if they didn't really and it actually was a ticky-tack or bad call--instead he instilled the fear of God in them to focus and perform, period.
Sean ain't coming back, but Allen has proven he's not the guy--not even CLOSE!

Great post and I agree with you.
CSP is a great coach and was great for the franchise and the city!
