North Carolina Electrical Sabotage Blamed on Right Wing Activists

Ok. So the media has come out and said the person(s) behind the vandalism of the electric grid was due to homophobes upset over a local drag show.
Anyone else hear this theory?

I have inside information on this. Transformers were shot with a rifle which drained out the oil, causing them to fail catastrophically. It was definitely a person with knowledge of how these systems work.
It has happened in another location as well.

or, it was just kids shooting at transformers because they were bored
a person with knowledge of how these systems work knows transformers are easy to change with minimal outage time so if they knew what they were doing they would have destroyed the systems and not the easy to replace hardware items

Shooting out large transformers would be very easy....deer rifle at 300 yds, no problem, and no one will know....
