re: Would you ever be open to a Back to the Future reboot? Could it not be screwed up?

I think you’re overthinking this.
Maybe I am, but I wish more background thought went into screenplays these days than just convenient hand-waving to explain things away.
The thing is, Back to the Future and the year 1985 go together like proverbial peas and carrots.
It makes sense that a former Manhattan Project contributor, down on his luck after his house burns down, sits on this wonderful idea of the flux capacitor for 30 years until the mid 1980s when the electronics revolution allowed him unprecedented access to consumer-grade gizmos to rip apart and rebuilt to see his vision come to light.

Well seeing as they would probably have Marty go back in time to make sure he comes out as a trans as a kid, No, I don't want to see that.
Of all the posters to beat this lame joke into the ground, I didn’t expect you to be one of them.

Good point. Makes sense that a groomer would keep some toys for the kiddies around.

quote:The derp, derp, he'll be a trans foreigner shite aside, I think this is a franchise that would benefit more from a reboot than a Ghostbusters Afterlife type of sequel. Not that I'd want either.
There seems to be some potential here but I know they'd probably screw it up. Doc would be some transgender man. Marty would be an actual woman.
The original Back to the Future sequels convoluted the initial timeline almost to the breaking point. The temptation to have Marty or Doc's kids go back to the 1950's to insert themselves into the original would be too great and just damage the integrity that we have left.
Do a reboot, have some kid from the future show up in our time (since everything pre-#metoo is going to be seen as problematic to some audience subsection).
Or just leave it all alone and watch Rick and Morty.

Nope. Which means it will happen eventually and will be as bad you think it will be, with every cliched woke gimmick you can think of.

No
Not unless Marty is played by Aaron Paul and Doc Brown by Bryan Cranston

Not going to lie, I'm just tired of all the division and politics in stuff. It's just worn me down. We can't just have fun and enjoy movies anymore. They (take your pick of hollywood content producer) make it impossible almost.
Statements can be without sledgehammers or ripping nostalgia apart (something like Everything, Everywhere All at Once), but for the most part, it's become a lot jockeying to "knock" the other side of the aisle. I thought the last thing they would touch would be Willow. Guess I was wrong on that.

Nix. It's a classic like Roadhouse. Hold on.....

If Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd were young and healthy enough to pull it off, I’d be down for a sequel like Ghostbusters: Afterlife where the next generation (presumably Biff or Marty’s kids) cause time hijinks and the OGs have to come back to help.
Being as neither of them are capable of that, I’d rather leave BttF in the past. Just make a quality new time travel movie without the brand name.

You’re still better than that joke, brother.

I recently bought the ultimate trilogy 4K bluray. It has dolby vision and dolby atmos. my current TV is the Sony A95K QD-OLED and I use the Sonos Arc soundbar with subwoofer. picture quality and color are top notch, dolby atmos sounds super crisp. I would say the movies have ages very well and do not need a remake.

If they ever did a reboot or another sequel of Back to the Future, I would quit watching film.

I would classify a remake of Back to the Future as sacrilege. Multiple movies in this same category. Jaws, Forest Gump and Shawshank Redemption are more that should not ever be remade or reimagined.

65 year old disgraced scientist?
Lloyd was 46 when he filmed the first one, which is a lot younger than the character looked.

Great Scott! What kind of thread is this BS?

Zemeckis has basically made this ip un-reboot-able.

Emmett means "Universal Truth".
Brown is a mixture of red, blue, and yellow. Just like film light projectors.
So, Doc Emmett Brown is a Universal Truth that is projected like a film. To Spielberg, film allows you to go back in time and "correct" previous mistakes that you've made in life. So, Marty is a projection of Spielberg himself.
Doc Brown invents the "flux capacitor" or "change storage" device, i.e. the theater, so that people can set right past wrongs by projecting the idealized history into the future.
Things go off the rails as Doc Brown and Marty both toy with forces beyond their capacity to understand or control by using the device for personal gain.
