He should have pardoned everybody at the demonstration/riot on J6 on his way out the door.

Trump talks about fighting more than he actually fights. He fights more than most, no question, but not as much as he talks.

Agreed but he’s short of allies in government.

Pardoned them for what? They weren't locked up.

The obtuse thinks he could do EVERYTHING unilaterally.

Or, they wanted him to kiss establishment arse because they would.

Trump can't stop nothing at this point in time, even his own indictment.

Pitiful.

I could be wrong, but I don't think there needs to be charges. I think a president can give a blanket pardon. Maybe a PT lawyer can weigh in.

You can’t pardon charges that aren’t there

I'm not a constitutional authority, but I believe a president can give a blanket pardon. I think that's what Ford did for Nixon, for example.

Trump looks fantastic in that video - he needs to lose the tie, get trimmer cut suits, get a fresh hairdo and change his image. Has he done it? Or is this just a one off?

He's the king of branding - if he reinvents himself I would be a huge fan of that.

Actually you can. He most likely would be been impeached and therefore ineligible for future office, but he had the power to preemptively pardon the J6ers.

quote:

A presidential preemptive pardon sounds unusual, but it has been done before, most famously when President Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon, who resigned because of the Watergate scandal in 1974 but had not been charged with any crimes.

"A preemptive pardon is a presidential pardon granted before any formal legal process has begun," American University professor Jeffrey Crouch tells NPR.

In an email, Crouch, author of The Presidential Pardon Power, says that "someone must have committed a federal offense, but as soon as that happens, the president can grant them clemency. He does not need to wait until the alleged offender is charged, stands trial, and so on."

Crouch continues: "These pardons are not common, but they do happen occasionally."

Talking a few hundred thousand people. The logistics alone of identification of everyone would take years.

A blanket pardon can't include a blanket "anyone that is ever brought up on charges for participating in the J6 demonstration" - and maybe add a little caveat to take negate of the whining/bitching - "that committed no acts of violence"?

I think the dude will fight if we give him 4 more years.

I think he chose to play the game, bc he thought he had a second 4 to wreck ship.

I don't think he will get his second 4 though. His followers are too weak to help him fight.

I once asked a Priest during Confession if I could get "Pre-Emptive Forgiveness" since I was going on a Bachelor Party & Trip to Amsterdam..... He didn't go for it!

However, he did tell me to come see him after the Trip...

And what names was he supposed to use on the pardon? Didn’t he leave office right after it happened?
