I’m like some other folks I’ve seen post on here. I love the USMNT and international soccer, but I don’t really follow club soccer. The time difference and my limited viewing time leads to that.

What I love about pulling for the USMNT is it’s patriotic, and we’re underdogs on the largest stage. You could wrap tiddlywinks in the flag, and I’d be all in. What’s different about soccer is the underdog aspect. Normally, the US is the big dog in international sports, but we aren’t in soccer. It allows me to play a completely different role as a fan which I enjoy. Don’t get me wrong, I want to see us become great, but the journey and process are a huge part of the fun here.

Does anyone else agree with this, or am I out on a island here?

I’d say that WAS my fav part about the USMNT. However, we typically are more talented than our opponents nowadays (better than Iran/Wales, and I’d argue have a more talented midfield than England). We were underdogs who played with heart and pride.
That same tenacity and fearlessness are gone the past two cycles in my opinion.

We are now in our golden generation, and expectations are rightfully higher.

Maybe years ago. Thing is these days we have some very talented young players. With the squad we have these days I honestly expect to compete with most anybody. Not saying they will win every match but I don’t feel they are the underdogs they used to be. These guys are very good technically compared to years past.

Coaching is a different story.

I agree with all of this. I guess I’m just looking at infrastructure and all as where we are underdogs. We have come light years with players though. We aren’t underdogs today for sure though.

We’re still underdogs until we prove we’re not…

The Woke aspect of the usmnt and western soccer in general (taking the knee before games in Premier league, gay flags everywhere in usmnt and MLS, literal antifa shite at me Timbers matches) has basically ruined it for me.

I really loved WC from 2002 on - 2014 was so heckin rad the way the street parties took off. It's way different now.

It tends to me the most patriotic national team of all sports. Maybe Ryder Cup or old school Olympic Hockey.

The boys love playing for the US.

Lifelong US soccer fan but I’m in the same position. I decided some time ago that it was time to pick a PL team to follow and I’m getting more active in following the league and European soccer in general as a result

Any suggestions on who to support? Lol. Love the game and now need to make it a bigger part of my life

So does that mean no more posting in match threads from you? Since you hate it now?

Everybody that interacts with you assumes you’re gay.

the USMNT need to start playing with the mentality that they are better than their opponents. You saw glimpses of it in the England game. If we play like that and have a 9 emerge over the next 4 years we’ll be a dark horse at the 2026 tourney.
