Years ago, I burned our Christmas in the back yard tree rather than drag it out to the street. Yea, kinda trashy but I was drinking and it was fun. That thing went up in a matter of seconds with just a match. It was scary to think what that would be like if it caught fire in the house. You have no chance if a real tree catches fire in the house. From that day on, it's been artificial.
I remember well the night a dry tree caused the death of a friend and his child when it caught fire.
Was on the FD, and still can’t unsee some scenes from that.
Give me a artificial all day every day.

I actually enjoy that process as part of tradition and especially going to pick out a tree. I am guessing you replaced your grass with artificial turf in your yard to avoid cutting or having it
I used to enjoy the process of going to blockbuster to rent a movie as well…..

i did a good portion of the back yard and in a couple years i plan to finish the rest of the back yard as a large putting greeen in turf.
if i could afford it, i would replace all my grass with turf.
looks better, more comfortable, drains better etc

I tried. Wife not having it. Says it kills the fun of decorating

I try to buy only things that are made here in America. And I will only buy China if there is no other option. I don't care if the cost is twice as much and just to get something made in Mexico instead of china, I'll do it.

I will have a real tree until I die.

We switched to the same thing about 5 or 6 years ago. I got tired of throwing 300 to 400 for 10 to 12 every year. Ours is heavy as shite too, but it beats the hell out of babysitting and cleaning up after live tree. Big plus on not having to F around with the lights, wait for one to be delivered, or play Clark Griswold wrestling the SOB in and out the house.

I've held out as long as possible. We paid $75 for a shitty tree because I wasn't dumping $150 into a decent tree and the costs just keep going up. This is the last year. Fake tree going forward

I will not participate in the erection nor decoration of an artificial tree. I'd rather just project a photo of one on the wall, much like the outdoor Xmas light projectors. If that ever happens at my house, beneath the tree will be red and green envelopes only with gift cards in place of real gifts. Also, Xmas meal will be thawed out John Folse frozen gumbo with minute rice, Walmart pre-made potato salad and frozen french bread.

I have seen some artificial trees that actually looked pretty good.
This wasn't one of them

We wrap ours with cellophane wrap and carry it up to the attic. Have 3 trees we do this way.

The best thing about an artificial tree is being able to buy a tree that is shaped for your specific needs. i.e. a skinny tree for small spaces, extra tall tree for high ceilings, etc.
Downside is 1) no fresh cut smell 2) losing the fun of picking out a tree with the kiddos

Fake tree 4 life. I just laugh at those suckers hauling real trees home and dealing with that mess.

I’m surprise nobody has mentioned the worst part of having an artificial tree…..
Trying to get that motherfricker back in the original box
Also, has OWEO showed up to give us his four paragraph essay on real vs fake trees?
This thread is incomplete until we get his feelings on this matter
