I’m not the best with pictures but trying again. Saw this tree and thought it had good color and would like one in my yard. Any help about what kind it is would be appreciated:

Dude. Take some pictures of individual leaves. But best I can tell it's a white oak.

It’s looks like a Scarlet Oak to me. They just finally changed outside the mountains, and they always change late November. I have several in my yard in the northwest Atlanta metro. It’s one of the faster growing oaks, and one of the most prevalent on mountain ridges.

Small ones preferably, and where is it?

Not hating on you but you use the same camera that everyone uses to take pictures of bigfoot.

I'm going with Shumard Oak. Definitely in the red oak class.

You're going with Northern? I have never seen one, so without a better pic, I can't even guess.

Looks like a red oak or a post oak to me. My first thought was post oak, but the other posters have me second guessing.

Does anyone know how many actual varieties of oaks there are?

Seems like hundreds, just in the South.

Possibly Northern Red Oak. Here's their native range.

I know there are 100 types of everything, but I was thinking white oak because the red oaks I've had have pointed lobes, these are rounded like the white oaks I've had.

Red oak. Good shade but brittle limbs in windy conditions. I pick up limbs after every storm it seems.

If wanting acorns as a wildlife food source them plant a white oak.
