This team should have never been a top 5 ranked team. We caught magic in a bottle and played a near perfect game along with an insane atmosphere to beat the worst Alabama team in years by a point. We beat Ole Miss who is a one trick pony with Judkins and a horrible defense. Playing for a SEC Championship is a huge accomplishment and way more than we should have expected. It’s year 1 of a complete rebuild from a dumpster fire. Just relax and enjoy the fact we are way ahead of schedule.

I am enjoying the fact that we are ahead of schedule.

I also believe we got to 5 because we earned it.

They are not mutually exclusive

Yes we should have. Well not top 5 but top 6. No one else has a resume as good as ours, therefore we were correctly ranked. Sometimes fans forget that other teams have their own struggles. It’s not just LSU

Not to mention we still only have 76ish scholarship players. This team overachieved this year. Most real LSU fans understand this and accept it for what it is.

You are what your record says you are.

Our record said (at the time) that we were top 5.

Now...nope.

It is what it is.

look we have serious issues but anybody downgrading that bama win can go frick themselves. TEAM EFFORT.

bama was not a weak team. they are a good team. they are not trash. you expect them to be the 2011 or 2020 team all the time? only that counts as a big win??

Are we ahead of schedule or did we face the worst SEC West in decades? What makes this team better next year?

you either get better or worse. we must get better across the board next year. especially at QB.

time for a Qb who can throw downfield. you'd be surpised what it opens up when you can do that. at this point in time we are wasting WR, TE and OL.

LSU lost to 4-7 last place Aggie all while showing no effort with a playoff berth on the line.

Not acceptable.

We have a very good offense with people open. Jayden just reads one guy and panics. He’ll be back next year though

They aren’t trash but they aren’t that good either. They beat Texas, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M by a combined 11 points. Their secondary has been horrible. Their wide receivers have been dropping passes all year and they have been undisciplined as any Saban team I’ve ever seen. So yes that win and night was magical and amazing for our program but I think it made us think we are much better than we are.

Can we admit this then admit the fact that we just lost to the worst team in the SEC west and possibly the entire SEC?

We lost to the team with the worst record in the West but with probably the 3rd most talent in the SEC. And that 5 star talent decided to show up for the first time all year

IF this team doesn't get a better QB, it will find itself behind schedule very quickly.

Absolutely hell yes on point one.

As to point two, yes, we earned it, but we were far too inconsistent in doing so. Demolish Ole Miss and Florida, but barely slip by Auburn and Arkansas. Those are signs of a young team coming together and learning to win. I have full faith that we will recruit great players, coach them up, and contend for the CFP every year going forward.

I clearly recall the pre-season “floor vs. ceiling” threads and I opined that a 10-win season (assumed a bowl win to get to 10) was potential COY effort by CBK. Bottom line: we are a 1-trick pony and the book is out on us. Arky was giving up 300 yards passing per game and we got 86. A&M was giving up 200 yards rushing per game and we could not sustain drives with Emery / Cain. A&M played their bowl game last night. Their fans were totally in to it. They deserved the win. We deserve the Camping World Bowl

No...

We got the SEC bump, as soon as we got past Alabama and it looked like we were going to Atlanta. UGA would have been a big favorite regardless, but everyone had to hedge that and vote us high, in the off-chance we pulled the upset.

Go back and look at the rankings, we're sitting around 13 or so, then jump to about 7 (passing a couple 1 loss teams) after getting past Bama.
It didn't mean we were "better", just that we were in position to play for the SEC title.
Same reason Arkansas, Miss State, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Florida all were ranked at times this year. Good record at the time, in position to challenge, so they get pre-emptively ranked in the event they can pull it off.

We got smoked by a good-not elite Tennessee, struggled mightily to beat a bad Auburn team. That's not Top Ten material. We then struggled to beat a mediocre Arkansas team missing their QB; and yet moved up.
