With a few conservatives opposing McCarthy in hopes of a more conservative leader, do you think Dems could peel off 5-6 GOPe to support a “moderate” Dem instead of a “far right” speaker?

This is my fear if McCarthy doesn’t get it. The GOP infighting can bite us again

If they did that, I would feel like voting is a complete waste of my time.

Zero

Far more likely to see a few from the Right fringe of the Dems support McCarthy as a Centrist Republican.

See Joe Straus. He became Speaker by ignoring the Right fringe of the GOP and garnering support among Centrist Dems. His support was about 85% GOP, but the 15% Dems made the difference and let him ignore the crazies.

Inside the beltway, what's the difference between a GOPe and a Democrat?

I rather take the GOPe down with us. I hate them as much as I hate Dems bc they’re also controlled by the left.

dude, its not a crime.
it may be offensive to team-first, team-only posters but the premise is a moderate republican who represents a purple-moderate district.

This is how one spots the posters who have never bothered to read the US Constitution.

McCarthy wants Speaker for himself.
if trump were one of the Speaker nominees, who would stand against him.

if it happened, the person would be speaker for 5 minutes. There'd be another vote and McCarthy would be put in place.

only half the people vote.
70% register.
of those registered , usually a bit less than 70% vote.
.7 x .7 = .49

Considering Dims count 'votes' until they 'win' the swing states, it does feel like a lost cause.

Zero chance we get a Dem speaker.

If there is not a serious contender, McCarthy will win the vote eventually even with the GOP’s that oppose. Speaker doesn’t need a majority of the House, just a majority of votes cast. So, after a few votes, some democrats and the Freedom caucus will simply abstain and McCarthy will win the majority of the votes cast at that time. Then the Freedom Caucus and those Dems can say they didn’t vote for him but he still wins.
