Can anyone link to a story which examines the sums of actual military aid which we have sent to Ukraine? Because it does not appear that most of the money we see discussed is either military OR sent to Ukraine.

As just one example, the $40 billion last spring included $16 billion in humanitarian aid. It included about $4 billion in spending on OUR military and another $2 billion to the militaries of NATO allies. Of the remainder, much was not slated to be SPENT for months or even years.

“We should not be spending ANY of that!”

OK, that is the response I expect from most. Good for you, if voicing that sentiment makes you feel better. Knock yourself out. But that is not the question I am asking.

We’re helping Ukraine set the Red Army back for a while. Best bang for the buck assistance in my lifetime. Open the tap and finish the job.

$40 billion

Appropriated by Congress and doled out in what are called "tranches".

Every time a tranche is announced the emotional and uneducated here think (wrongly) its is in addition to the 40 bil appropriated. Its not.

And that makes sense right we sent an initial package of military aid and then tailored the trances to what the Ukrainians need.

What is truly sad in some of the outrage threads about "more money for Ukraine" the linked story will actually say "this 750 million package of military aid is part of the 40 billion appropriation".

This is such a vapid comment. We have funded proxy wars forever.

Whether Ukraine is a wise place to do so and whether we are spending too much? Both valid questions.

Why even over-analyze it?

Honestly. Does anyone with a brain believe that this money is being spent wisely? Does anyone actually believe its not being used to pay off donors in the MIC and cronies overseas? The FTX story is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Russians would say yes without a doubt.

Whether we have spent $20 billion or $120 billion seems a relevant question, to me.

fair enough.

I guess my point is that its 100% wasteful and it shouldnt even be 1 dollar. These "wars" have become nothing more than a global money laundering operation.

Ukraine is not our war. US Sovereignty is not threatened. The existence of proxy wars in the past does not justify current or future proxy wars. Decatur, like many others, is perfectly willing to put tax money where his mouth is, but will not place his arse in line to do anything on a personal level. This is much like the wealthy northerners during the US draft during the American Civil War who would purchase their way out of serving in any physical capacity.

"Vapid" is suggesting that funding proxy wars in the past establishes legitimacy to funding proxy wars in the future. For a man who claims to use logic, you tend to make frequent use of non-sequiturs.

What Lakeboy said has been correct up until recently, but Congress has now proposed legislation for additional funding for 2023.

This is a decent story from Newsweek focused on US spending.

Why is it that all Ukrainian money seems to come back into our Politician’s hands. This is a huge scandal…….

It’s a vital US national national interest to ensure that our allies survive. Ukraine easily checks the box.
