It's a rival game for them.

BK stated that early in the briefing today. I agree it is for them. I feel its super important for us like any SEC game. What is the general idea of a rival? Personally I think you can have multiple rivals. I'm glad 4&8 joined the SEC the potential to be our rival was promising. It must be competitive to me and probably most.
What I consider rivals:

Alabama (I understand them not having the same view)

Arkansas (They bring it almost every year)

Florida (I remember the Spurrier years and enjoy beating them always)

Texas 4/8
Auburn
Ole miss (kinda all in the same category except Ole Miss has the history

I’m gonna guess you’re <41 years old? You remember Florida curb stomping us in the 90s but don’t remember the A&M games of the 80s. That was some intense crap back in my childhood. I don’t remember the adults hating other teams more.

These frickers can keep dancing around at midnight, wearing crazy coveralls, and telling jokes that come back to bite them.

We are so far above them, they aren’t a rivalry by any means.

Bama. If the whole country waits for the game every year, it’s a rivalry.

Florida. If they force you to play an out of division opponent every year, for tradition, it’s a rivalry.

Arkansas I suppose there is a trophy.

I also have A&M circled every year cause they are gay and I hate em.

I consider everyone in the West a rival except for Mississippi State.

They are only our rival if we say they are. Same reasons that you gave for bama being able to say that we might not be theirs.

We are 9-2 (should be 10-1) over A&M since they joined the SEC. That’s the kind of record you have over your in-state little brother school not an interdivisional conference rival. Yes they are extremely gay and culty but you don’t get to just be our rival by being weird. All that makes you is gay and culty. When it’s competitive call me.

Florida is our true rival. We are both tied at 10 win seasons with 16, we are currently tied 33-33 in wins against each other, we both have 2 BCS national titles, 12 SEC titles to 8, 2 Heisman winners to 3, and our other 2 national championships to their 1. We are very similar in talent and every year is a classic with such great memories, the hester’s runs, Les’s fake field goals/punts, the shoe tossing.

It's also potentially a trap game. Regardless of the record and the fact that Jimbo will be out the next morning, there is still a lot of talent on that team. You don't want to take them lightly because you could find that the game is tied late in the 4th quarter.

I read this all the time but it's a terrible narrative.
LSU is far above Ole Miss and Arkansas too but they're still rivalry games. Texas is far above Texas A&M but it's also still a rivalry game. Same thing can be said about UGA/Ga Tech, USCe/Clemson, USCw/UCLA, Oklahoma/OK State. Hell even the Iron Bowl and Bama/Tennessee could be considered lopsided. A lot of times it's just about proximity of the 2 fan bases and anyone whose spent much time around large groups of Aggies will tell you that they hate A&M too.

Refusing to acknowledge a game as a rivalry bc we're better than them sounds like insecurity and it's the reason arkansas gets up for our game every year and we don't. When you don't acknowledge a rivalry because the team is beneath you, you get a trap game
