Future season openers against “good” P5 teams

I love that LSU schedules teams like Oregon, Miami, FSU, etc. for season openers.
But after what happened this season I hope stipulations will be put in the contracts going forward that neither team can schedule a game the weekend before, or both must.
I’m convinced LSU beats FSU if both were playing its first game or if both had played a warm up game prior. The FSU loss has LSU in a tight spot as we’re approaching the playoffs.

If any team pulls this week zero trash again, our athletic department better move a game to week 0. Cowardly programs to slip in a week 0 game after these games have been scheduled years in advance.

It’s something to do with a team scheduling Hawaii. If you schedule them anytime during your season, you can begin a week early. Something like that

That’s irrelevant if the Athletic Dept does it’s job properly and insists that no game can be scheduled prior to our game in the game contract.

Florida State didn’t play Hawaii. Feels like it’s now a free for all for cowards to get a tune up game after scheduling big games week 1.

It has happened to us two years in a row. UCLA did it too.

Va Tech did it, too. It's not uncommon.

Week zero used to be reserved for the old Kickoff Classic or other neutral site games so big name programs could play each other early in the season.
How it has now evolved to the point where BYU, UCLA and FSU can schedule cupcake FCS schools that week is total horseshite.

It’s that any team who plays at Hawaii in a given year is eligible to schedule a week zero game. And, consequently, those teams’ week zero opponents become eligible as well.
FSU figured out that Duquesne, an FCS team that happened to play at Hawaii this year, had not scheduled a week zero game. So FSU paid that FCS team to play in Tallahassee week zero. This occurred after the LSU game was scheduled.
Because of that week zero game in Tallahassee, FSU also got to start their fall camp a week earlier. So they had not only a tuneup game, but also an extra week of practice.
I agree with OP that it needs to be stipulated in the contracts for any OOC week 1 matchups. It was a pretty slimy move and was 100% intended to give FSU an advantage against LSU. It is what it is, and it’s not an excuse for our performance in that game. But we can and should try to prevent it from happening again.

I'm assuming that whoever FS played in Week 0 did play Hawaii.

Yeah, but their week 0 Opponent Duquesne did play Hawaii. One of the 2 teams playing in week zero have to have Hawaii on the schedule.

ETA: Disregard. Forgot that game was in Pasadena.

Right. A reporter asked Tom Jones about it, and he said it’s not unusual.

UCLA actually played at Hawaii week zero
No they didn't. That game was at the Rose Bowl on ESPN.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that.
Disregard, still chicken shite. Less chicken shite, but chicken shite nonetheless.

Their first opponent scheduled played Hawaii. Only one team has to play Hawaii in the week zero games.

I would assume LSU could write something into contracts to be able to avoid this in the future.

Why do you think it is any of LSU’s business who it’s non-conference opponents play?
If LSU wants a Week Zero game, then schedule one.
This sounds like a weak-arse cope.

LSU should schedule a game and play it

+1. Bit us in the arse both times. Other teams (UCLA and FSU) looked really sharp compared to LSU. Would be a real shame if this costs us a spot in playoffs. I don't think it will but we are the only 2 loss team in top 6. Amazing how all that matters is wins and losses. That week1 loss put LSU behind the chains from the very jump. Remarkable recovery to get where we are today.
