Yeah, if Jayden stays we may lose one of the younger QB's.
I'd expect some losses from deeper positions, like o-line, but I don't see us losing a lot. I think we'll lose more due to graduate transfers out of eligibility and early draft entrants.

They transfer once with no penalty. This is why strategically it’s smart to get a transfer after their first year since they can’t then leave your program without sitting out a year.

my apologies. I thought it was one-time rule only
Nope, but there is a hard date for players to enter the portal. Sometime in February if you want to stay in conference, May if you want to be eligible the coming fall.

I would think the Aggie players and recruits would be bailing by the dozen after Auburn

yes, it was a one-time rule for last year because of COVID-related matters.
It was made permanent in August of this year.
ETA: for people giving you shite, you were going off old info. It was originally part of the COVID adjustments unless I am misremembering as well, but was made permanent. There is also s caveat that new schools have to honor the scholarship of any transfer until they earn a bachelor's degree, use up all their eligibility, or if they transfer again, whichever comes first.

I am sure LSU will be much more appealing to transfers this year than last year...kinda scary considering how well we did last year. I am guessing we can be pickier with who we take also.

BK is on record lamenting the necessity of using the portal but we’re going to need help for sure especially at DB and probably DL too.

That doesn't sound right.
From August 31, 2021
quote:
College athletes in all sports will continue to be immediately eligible the first time they transfer, provided they notify their schools in writing during designated notification-of-transfer windows (as determined by their sport.)
The board adopted the following notification-of-transfer windows:
Fall sports: a 45-day window beginning the day after championships selections are made in their sport, or May 1-15.
Reasonable accommodations will be made for participants in the Football Bowl Subdivision and Football Championship Subdivision championship games.
This is why you're not seeing players officially opt out or enter the transfer portal mid season like we've seen the past couple of years. Day after selection day is going to be a free for all.
Also of note:
quote:
NCAA rules now will require any school that considers athletics when awarding scholarships to transfer student-athletes to provide that scholarship for the rest of a student's five-year eligibility or until they complete the requirements for their bachelor's degree, unless the student transfers again or engages in professional athletics opportunities.
So it looks like if a player transfers and drops out, you're still on the hook for the scholarship until their eligibility runs out. Going to have to keep an eye on "dead scholarships" with the recruit/scholarship numbers going forward.

We need some assistance on special teams.

I would be selective which guys I add.
A&M guys better be vetted. We don’t want that same attitude carried over to LSU.

We will have guys leave like any other year so I’d imagine we look in the portal to fill needs. Special teams seems like a need so anyone that can contribute right away there is an option. Secondary is always a need.

It's easy to look at the roster and reach this conclusion, but I'm not so sure about DB. If Ricks and Toviano come in, there will be LOTS of talented young DBs, and a transfer or two might unnecessarily crowd the room and create dissension.
Adams, Stingley and Ricks come to mind as recent instant starters (and surely there were others), and this year's overall class could be just as talented or more. The staff might decide to just bite the bullet and endure some growing pains.
I could see taking a nose tackle type, but even there, the cupboard's not bare.
