That p63 pilot better have had a medical emergency. He killed a lot of people. Like how the hell do you broadside a damn bomber?

I can't believe he didn't see it. I saw the video without context and thought it an intentional kamikaze attack.

Down vote away. The p63 pilot screwed up.
I'll eat crown if the NTSA/faa says I'm wrong.

fricking tragic.

It’s one thing to be in the wrong, but to be flying the route you are supposed to and someone else fricks up and you lose your life.

That’s the kind of shite that scares me when it comes to GA aircraft.

This same B-17 was just in Cullman, AL last weekend. Crazy and sad. Prayers out to their families.

So so sad. The B-17 regularly flies over the Woodlands……man.

Prayers for all involved.

I don’t understand why people try so hard to be edgy or oppositional in threads like this. Making fun of the deaths, it’s just exceedingly fake and screams try hard.

Dang he sliced that big bird right in half. At least for the victims, it was over fast.

Such sadness. Here are pictures of the bird and crew in Opelousas recently:

These are the two pilots flying the aircraft pictured:

In the hours following the accident, the Allied Pilots Association, a union representing American Airlines pilots, confirmed on Twitter that two former members, Terry Barker and Len Root, were part of the B-17 crew and died in the crash.

Magnificent airplanes. Flying Fortress. I loved the sound of the B-17 engines as the airplane flew over. Then that terrible sound of the P-63 Cobra crashing into the B-17. Awful tragedy.

My prayers for the victims and their families. The old warbirds and their pilots will be missed.

The loss of these pilots reminds me of President Reagan's speech following the Challenger disaster.....

"We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and “slipped the surly bonds of earth” to “touch the face of God.” - President Reagan - January 28, 1986.

As an aviation lover it pains me to say this, but these old birds need to start being enjoyed on the ground. They aren't safe anymore.

I've been to Redbird airport many times and that accident was dangerously close to happening in a populated area.
