re: Beating a dead horse, but why the hell in 2022 does it take this long to count votes?

Ballots, tons of paper ballots…
Where did they come from? Who knows.
What paper are they printed on? Who cares.
How many times are they each run through a tabulator? Don’t know.
Do they correspond to legal, registered voters? Doesn’t matter.

The reason it is taking so long is because they ARE counting the votes. Got to know how many they need to win.

Really puts Foxnews calling Arizona so quickly in 2020 into perspective.

1. Early Voting. Increase in early voting, combined with stupid statutory prohibitions against COUNTING those early votes until election day. Some states do not even allow the count of those votes to START until after the polls close.
2. Mailed Ballots. Statutory provisions in many states providing that the registrar must count all ballots postmarked on or before Election Day, coupled with ever-slower mail delivery, means that many legal/valid ballots are not even RECEIVED Until several days after Election Day. Further, the registrar cannot count mailed ballots received BEFORE election Day. See (1).
3. Given the ever-increasing number of votes for which the count cannot even START before the polls close, there is just not TIME in many cases for the volunteers (who have just worked a 16-hour day) to complete a same-day count.

It’s intentional. It’s fraud. The fact that you even asked this question is sad.

Florida, the third most populated state in the country, can finish counting and report their results for a presidential election the same day.

And that’s the way it should be. There should be a hard and fast deadline either on election day

There is no valid reason that all states do not have this law.
Some just don’t want to fix it. They take joy in taking days and weeks to count.
I don’t care if they allow five months of mail in ballots. Get them in by Election Day, period. It really is that simple. But like I said places like PA want as much of this shite as possible.

The attempt to cheat and steal is being considered by the democrat party.....period.
All of the peices are in place, they just need to execute, and they will!
Our government is corrupt as hell.

Good question.
Antiquated systems in some states, for sure.
In some states mail in ballots, if they are postmarked on election day, or earlier, may be counted if received within a week of the election. A built in 7 day delay in very close races.
We do lots of stuff on line, including banking, brokerage, and shopping, there should be a secure way of voting on line.
I'm not familiar with what Oregon does for their on line voting system. They claim it's safe and secure. Maybe so. Clearly an on-line system would be much, much faster.
Lincoln knew he had been reelected on election night 1864. Surely we can do better in 2024.

Why the hell is that?
my current female partner who is wise in woman's ways says it's because every move they make is scrutinized. its all on cctv.
I don't accept the claims of secure elections involving computer systems.
there's so much at stake.
go back to paper.
I don't get how anyone trusts computer systems.
dumbest thing.

In Nevada the GOP candidates WANT slow counting, it's their official position.

I voted in Maricopa—-other than those Scranton readers—-there wasn’t a machine in sight. All paper ballots.
And I asked them about machines—told them we didn’t have paper in Louisiana. They looked at me as if I were insane.

A lot of localities insist on paper ballots and individual counting and verification. That has been a theme of Republican demands for years. The problem is that it takes a long freaking time to count and verify paper ballots.
The short answer is that you created this mess.
I must have missed where Republicans in Nevada created mail in votes being sent out MONTHS in advance to residences (regardless of whether or not the intended recipient still lived there) and yet still accepted ballots well after election day if they were postmarked for that day. (Something that can easily be manipulated, BTW)
Be a good boy and show me what I missed, would ya? This should be entertaining...

In other words, a law that every other state could easily implement, were they to chose. Got it.

Here is a state by state breakdown of election counting rules, about the state you asked and all the others, the US Territories, etc.a
