Hypothetical: Say the Lakers get the 2 pick and not the 1

Do you take Scoot Henderson? How would he fit on this roster?

Or you trade it for a bunch more 1sts and go after a young vet

You take the consensus number two every time regardless of your roster. You not guaranteed that good of a pick again.

Well yea.
I mean, I think so too but that puts us in a logjam at guard unless Dyson grows more and we use him as more of a wing.

The only reason you don't follow your board and take the BPA is if you think it's an especially weak draft and don't want the guaranteed money tied up in players you don't believe in. But all indications are that's not the case for this draft.

scoot would be #1 in most other drafts. Reminds me of Ja or prime westbrook

Uh duh?
Yeah. You take Scoot.
And if he works out you can move CJ down the road for other parts.

Of course Wembanyama's ceiling is higher. He's a unicorn but I do wonder if Scoot would be a safer option longterm. There's tons of reference of taller 7 footers, guys Victor's height and taller, that just dont last very long in the NBA.

From the limited research I've done on this years draft prospects as of now if that Lakers pick landed in the top 4 I wouldn't entertain trading it for any less than a perennial All-Star/All-NBA player.
Obviously those top 4 probably won't remain the same, but as of now...

Another way to look at it right now Scoot grades out to be much better than Dyson, so why would you not take him if you have Dyson? If you can truly only keep 1, take the better player in Scoot and move Dyson down the road.

Have we learned nothing from the Jaxson Hayes trade?
Only under the most advantageous scenario(think getting someone like Luka in his prime) you never give up the opportunity to pick top 5.
If you get Scoot? You take it and dont think twice. In pretty much every draft besides this one and Zion’s the last half decade, Scoot would be consensus #1 right now

Dyson is already basically 6ft 8 and is more of a 3 and Slashing D Wing if we are being absolutely honest.
Of course you take Scoot if he is the 2nd best prospect at the time of the draft.
You never truly know, someone else may surface during the NCAA season.

Dudes that size seem to not have success staying healthy.

I want a franchise guard. We haven't drafted one since CP3.
Posted on 11/10/22 at 2:38 pm to shel311
No of course not. if you're the number 1 then you HAVE to take Wemby and get the 7-8 amazing seasons out of him.
But I also wonder if it would be a blessing in disguise if we ended up with the 2 and get 12 or more years out of Scoot.

If we are also being honest, if Scoot lands here and is the real deal, Dyson probably has a long term future with us entirely dependent on whether he can learn to shoot at a Lonzo-like level.
Cause Scoot also is not a pure shooter right now(and may only be a Morant-like streaky one) and with BI/Zion as your core(also not great three point shooters), you basically have to put a knock down shooter next to them(also means Herb’s long-term in a Scoot to Pels world probably has a limited shelf life), especially when rim protecting switchable stretch fives are not easy to find.
Posted on 11/10/22 at 2:47 pm to Bronc
He's not a pure shooter right now but he's much better than Ja and has a higher ceiling for it than Ja IMO. I think he'd be perfect with Z and BI.
I think Herb's work ethic the next several years will get him to where he's not complete trash at 3
