If we're being honest, it's probably more so that people wanted to see Bama lose

One of the greatest college games I heve ever watched....sure was nice to see some DEFENSE, for a change!
Nothing better that a hard-fought SEC game!

And G6 of the World Series was on..

It’s a bit of both I’d imagine. Fans around the country are well aware these are two of the most successful programs of the era and this one of the biggest games.

What does that say about MLB?
Competing with final game of World Series?

Every time these two teams play it’s a top watched game. Especially if it’s a top 15 or better matchup.
LSU and Bama are two massive national fan bases. They move the needle. Other big rivalries in the conference seem to be more regional. Aside from the iron bowl.

Ol girl hadn't been in TS with me since Bama 87'(when they were filming the movie)
She wanted to watch this one at home
I told her, FUGG dat, this is gonna be major moment in TS history
I talked her into going
IT WAS EPIC!

I don't think it is because they have two "massive national" fanbases. It's that they are two of the strongest "brands" in college football. They are #1 and #2 in the amount of national championships won since the year 2000 (Alabama - 6; LSU - 3) If you are a college football fan. Even just a casual college football fan, you KNOW Alabama and LSU. As Herbstriet said in the intro "There are some games where the two uniforms take the field it's just right. This is one of those"

It’s simply because everyone wants to see Bama lose. And we have a good shot of doing that on a year-in, year-out basis.

And there was a game 6 world series on at the same time.
Pretty awesome.

I bet a lot of the Notre Dame fan base was watching.
Probably 90% were rooting against Kelly, not for Bama.

LSU’s overtime upset of Alabama on ESPN (7 p.m. ET) delivered 7.6 million viewers and peaked with 10.4 million viewers, becoming ESPN’s most-watched regular season college football game since 2016 (Ole Miss/Florida State, 8.4 million viewers) and the most-watched regular season Saturday college football game since 2015, when Ole Miss/Alabama brought in an audience of 7.6 million. The Tigers/Tide tussle ranks as the sixth-best Saturday ESPN game in network history and sixth-best game on any network this season. The primetime presentation is ESPN’s most-watched non-NFL telecast since Game 7 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals in May and second most-watched since the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship.
Ole Miss/Florida State was on Labor Day and was the only game on.

2011 will never be topped as far as nerves go, but this was up there along with 2007 Florida.

That was the most tension filled but objectively boring game maybe in LSU history.
The stakes weren't quite as high in this Alabama v LSU game, but at least there was exciting play, and back and forth action
