Looking For A Financial Advisor To Pay To Do A One-Time Evaluation Of My…

…investment/retirement portfolio. Everyone that I know of locally wants to manage my stuff for me. I’m not at all interested in that. I just want someone that will ask me questions and then give me a summary of what they think after I answer all those questions. Any recommendations for such a person?

If your account is with Fidelity or Schwab, or maybe others, they offer free evaluations or if not free, very low cost.

If its a 401k, I would check with the company its through. Luckily my 401k lady is a Dave Ramsey advisor and gives great advise for free.

We have 401-k’s and ira’s through different people, crypto, some real estate and a business that will be sold when we decide to retire. Plus, I will likely always work a little, as I love what I do. It’s definitely not a straightforward situation that I can just go plug into an online calculator.

Yes. You can find top rated consultations on Upwork. Don't go cheap.

Not local, but I've done this before considering it as a one-time planning engagement. I ask questions to get a feel for your goals and then make specific investment recommendations based on those goals and your life stage/financial circumstances. The scope is very limited compared to something more comprehensive that more heavily considers other planning topics like taxes, insurance, retirement, college savings, etc. but it gives do-it-yourselfers a good start and good portfolio to sit on for 9-12 months before they need someone to review it again.
If you want someone local, you might try looking on NAPFA.org and just start asking around to see if anyone would do something similar. Could also try CFP.net.

I would actually prefer that it not be local, as I personally know most of my local folks. Cost for such?

I have an account with Schwab and they are doing mine for free. They send you a detailed questionnaire then a conference call to clarify any questions. I met with some local guys who wanted to manage my accounts but didn’t want that so Schwab was a no brainer.

Typed in a couple of zip codes and found some names I know and didn't find others. Seems weak. What are the qualifications for getting on this list?

Ameriprise charges a yearly fee. So essentially you can get a one off consult and not renew. You meet twice a year. I used their advisor 2 years and it was helpful for tax and estate planning. Took off this year and they were fine with that since I’m relatively young and had done the big stuff they recommend.
