The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention new recommendations are an update to 2016 guidelines that added momentum to a decline in opioid painkiller prescriptions.
Opioids painkillers can be addictive — even when used under doctors’ orders — and were identified as a big reason for a rise in U.S. drug overdoses that began more than two decades ago. Other drugs have overtaken them in overdose statistics, and illicit fentanyl is now the biggest driver of deaths.

Considering the Feds got a wild hair up their arse to tighten down on doctors with little warning, which led directly to people in legitimate need getting get off, which led to the explosion in black market fentanyl pill mills......I see this as trying to curb the impact of their initial frick up.

well they were throwing a lot of Dr's in jail when Dr's claim they should have some leeway in prescribing meds

Can we also soften on the currently illegal drugs with known medical benefits that are also known to not be as dangerous as opioids?

But let’s not remove marijuana from the list of Schedule I drugs. Got it. Opioids are fare less dangerous to you long term than marijuana is.

This is good.
Lots of people with legit pain who were being managed by doctors had trouble getting medicine because of a very small % of the population who are more at risk for developing addiction issues.

Increases prescription length and strength. Which shouldn't be a problem for discerning doctors.

I'm all for this. My Dr can't prescribe me anything that works for my back pain anymore for fear of getting himself in trouble.

I personally experienced this bullshite in just the last 3 months. My 17 yr old and 19 yr old got their wisdom teeth extracted recently. They were each prescribed exactly 12 Hydrocodone 5mgs after the procedure.
Both kids would have been fine with 16-20 pills as they were both in terrible pain on day 6 and out of pills. Fortunately their mom had some leftover 7.5s from a surgery and they worked perfectly.
By comparison when I had my wisdom teeth removed in 1997, I was sent home with 30 Demerol. I needed about 10 b/c they were strong as shite.
Doctors, addicts, and the government are causing normal people to suffer unnecessarily after procedures.
