Sun Belt Conference...Now and Future?

First off, how quality of a product is the Sun Belt Conference this year? There are 9 teams with winning records at this point. I truly feel with the footprint of this conference, the SBC could really take off and become the premier G5 conference moving forward. Second, why is Liberty not being invited? They have become a solid program and have great facilities. Seems like it would be a great natural fit...why no talk of any kind of addition there?
Teams with winning records:
Coast Carolina 6-1
Troy 6-2
James Madison 5-2
South Alabama 5-2
GA Southern 5-3
Southern Miss 5-3
Appalachian St 4-3
Marshall 4-3
Lousiana 4-4
**Liberty 7-1**

Sun Belt making out like bandits in the conference realignment phase

Not to worry, we hired one of us. At least he finally settled on playing 1 quarterback by week 6. Even if it was only due to injury.

About 7 years ago, I thought the Sun Belt would dissolve like we’re seeing with other conferences. Now they’re becoming the premier G5 conference. The people in charge of that conference did a damn good job of preserving and making the conference better.

You pump this quarterly. What is the obsession with the Fun Belt?

no conference did better in overall added value.
Best of all they mostly kept in their region so it all feels natural. As long as they continue to hire good up and coming coaches it will be a fun conference

The only problem they have is that they are all at the same level so making a NY6 bowl will be a disaster for that league.
The AAC isn't as deep, but the top teams going forward are REALLY going to run away and win 10-12 games a year.
They actually should send invites to ECU and maybe even Tulane (this would triple down on rivalries). Make those schools say no.

Honestly the Sun Belt will probably be a better overall conference than the AAC when Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF leave.

I think Tulane’s administration would rather close down and burn down the campus before being in the Sunbelt with Cajuns and ULM.
But I think it would definitely be fun, especially with football and baseball.

This is the same administration that wanted to drop us to Division II back in the day, so I wouldn’t put anything past them.
I think the AAC did a terrible job replacing the departing members. They went with media markets over the actual quality of the programs. It’s basically going to be Conference USA 2.0
The Sun Belt would actually be a good fit for Tulane and it has arguably the brightest future of any of the G5 conferences. The boosters would shite a brick though, like you said they think Tulane is above those programs for some reason.
I would still go all out trying to get in the Big XII if we can, but the Fun Belt wouldn’t be a bad spot if and when the American collapses

I know it would never happen but if Memphis could somehow get basketball in to the Big East i think moving football over to the SBC would be pretty cool.

Again, what about a program like Liberty?? They’re a pretty solid and stable program with great facilities..and with both UVA and VA Tech both being garbage programs currently, they could steal the headlines up there.

That administration isn't really there anymore sans a few leftovers in more academic roles. That admin is why Tulane spent 15 years in the freaking wilderness.

Not even close. It will make less money, it has lower profile schools, and its basketball is atrocious. People go on and on about how terrible it is to add "markets"; well, look at the media rights for the leagues with markets compared to the leagues without. It's TV eyeballs, not 20K in stands v. 10K that matters.
Now the AAC weakness, of course, was adding 6 teams, instead of 3 or 0. Whenever you have that many, you will have a large bottom.
That said, the sunbelt, at least initially, probably will have the highest football power ranking; it give their teams a "leg up"; and those teams aren't so good such that a special team can't go through that schedule unscathed.
But we'll see how long they can keep that up with, now, 14 mouths to feed. In a few years, the best league may be end up being CUSA, due to fewer mouths to feed.

Just my personal opinion but im sure the AAC and SBC are going to be watching Liberty in the CUSA pretty closely. I think these two were gun shy on them at the time because of the school its self but will be more than interested once they show how they can do in a conference setting.

Liberty was one of the schools I really wish the American Conference would have added.

When the expanded playoffs begin, they will grow stronger.

It helps that it is a southern conference and right now there is a lot of good talent in the south that isn't good enough for the P5... but still plenty good.

The money will be darn near identical. Plus, the AAC is failing. The SBC will be the 6th auto qualifier more times than not.
