Most coaches that only win 1/4th of their games, don't coach as long has has been allowed to

No, he isn't. But he was a lazy hire.

yes, they should have fired him yesterday

/thread

below is one of the replies i saw to that video that does a great job of explaining things pretty well

quote:

Incompetence is why the Saints are in this quagmire. The harsh reality is Payton decided to retire nearly a few weeks before the combine when other teams that had openings already made their coaches and the Saints had to scramble candidates for their head coaching opening. To many, Dennis Allen was the ideal choice as the coach, but he was a gigantic mistake. The truth of the matter is he didn't want the job to begin with and ended up being the only hope. I do believe that the other coaches who were interviewed wanted to rebuild, but Loomis wasn't having it, which is why the Saints are in this mess. Mickey Loomis is the longest-tenured GM in the NFL outside the de facto GM in the likes of Bill Belichick and Jerry Jones. Mickey decided to throw the chips on the table and Allen being the Stooge to join along this bet that has crapped out so far. Leaning on continuity in retaining Pete Carmichael, who wanted to move on, having co-defensive coordinators, and bringing back Doug Marone who failed as the offensive line coach at Bama. Then begged Michael Thomas to stay, but so far he's an injury-ridden receiver whose best years are behind him, maybe. The Saints didn't want to pay Armstead because he's not worth the money for an average of 12 games he plays a year, but prefers Hurst, who's slow against edge rushers. Then they didn't want to pay Marcus Williams because he's a liability against the run, and they trade Gardener-Johnson because he committed a cardinal sin, sorry guys, in holding out and traded him for low-round picks. Then they sign retreads like Jarvis Landry, Marcus Maye, The Honey Badger, Andy Dalton, and Chris Harris. Furthermore, the trade that's maybe worse than the Ricky Williams trade in moving up in the draft for No. 16, 19, and 194, and the Eagles get picks 18, 101, 237, a 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 second-round pick. This wasn't a robbery, but more than a heist. The Eagles will reap the rewards with a possible top-10 pick, but it's thanks to the incompetence of Mickey Loomis. Finally, Jameis Winston, the overpaid backup QB whose starting days were over after his time with the Bucs, who haven't learned the system since signing him back in 2020. Injury prone and seemed out of place with the team culture, Winston is just a washed-up QB who had one season where he was 30 TDs, 30 ints and threw for 5,100 but half of that yardage was garbage time yards as it was in his first four years in the NFL. The QB situation is the lesser of two evils at this point and with crapping out at the table with the offseason moves, as the old saying you make a hard bed then you should sleep on a hard bed.

No. Bert Bell is the worst by winning percentage, according to a quick check of Pro Football Reference. He was 10-46-2 (.179). Reverse sort by percentage on the link below.

Yes he’s terrible. The Saints may have won their only games. Losing is what Allen does. He’s good at it.

Defensive coordinators turned head coaches outside of Belichick and Tomlin have been bad.

What if this is all a long con by the front office to make things look so bad that the next guy (the coach they really want) has more of a grace period to build things slowly?

I don't know how Todd Bowles escapes criticism. He has arguably the better roster, with a hall of fame QB, took over a winning team, and has done jack shite with it.

I think both Allen and Bowles are uninspired hires. I was on the continuity train last offseason, but I see that I was wrong. Our entire coaching staff looks like they are just going through the motions.

Allen and new Tampa Bay coach Bowles have taken teams stocked with good talent and run them in the ground already. Both are terrible coaches that shouldn't have gotten another chance.

At least Allen has the excuse for multiple injuries in the same position group. But, eventually those guys will come back and he’ll have to prove he can handle the job. I’m sure they’ll get a few wins, but at best he’s an almost .500 coach

I wasn’t a fan of Allen, think he’s a good def coordinator, not great. Have no problem keeping him in that role. But he doesn’t have the persona for it.

I said in the off-season threads capt comeback was the man to get and he wanted back in the nfl this off-season.

Same here. We didn't look good from the very first game. You hate to start over after so many years but this is going in the wrong direction. The million dollar question is does Loomis see that and if not can the owner.
