It can make you very irritable. Know a couple guys who take it every day for work, if you try to talk to them it's a complete no go. It makes you so hyperfocused that anything else is eliminated, including acting and conversing like a normal human. Basically it turns you into a robot for 8 hours if you're into that

The harm is primarily how it affects your sleep. Many look to things like alcohol to help them “come down.” It May have a place for some people, but it definitely has a lot of potential negative consequences. Also It’s weird that the OP is 45, has no experience with it, but seemingly so dead set on trying it.

I took it twice during college. Not to study, but before drinking. The first time didn't do much. The second time, HOLY SHIZZ. Felt like I could power through 50 beers easily (I'm exaggerating, but you just want to keep going like the party just started, but it's 3 AM). The dosage could have been different.

It was kind of fun for a night. Decided I hated that feeling afterward. Probably never again for me.

My roomies used to take it to study for finals. They would stay up for like 36 hours. Then absolutely crash for almost 2 days. Only getting out of bed for things like eating a little meal, pissing, shitting or something menial. (the call from their Mother had to be the funniest, listening to them talk like a zombie to their Mother at like 3:30 PM on a Thursday)

Glad to hear you have a good support system in place! I've been off for 1.5 years and can't imagine taking the stuff again! Don't hesitate to message me if you ever need some help.

I've taken adderall every day, Monday - Friday, since 2013. It has changed my life. My only regret is not getting on it sooner when I was in school. They started me off on Vyvanse which was fine for a while, but my blood pressure started increasing. Then they put me on some generic version, which made me kinda irritable. Then finally switched me to 30mg adderall. I take one each morning, and I'm a fricking rockstar. No trouble with blood pressure, ED, or falling asleep at night. At my last job I was promoted twice in a 3 year span, and learned the business well enough to go off on my own and start my own business. I've been successfully running that business now for 4 years. I owe it all to adderall. But yes, on the days that I don't take them, I notice a significant decrease in my attention span and overall motivation. But the cure for that is to just get your prescription refilled, and take another pill, then all of those harmful side effects seem to go away... Even though you're 45, I would still recommend getting on it. If nothing else, try it for a month and see if you notice a change in your overall productivity, and if you don't like it then stop taking it.

This is terrible advice. It would be like advising drinking a monster energy right before bed. Absolutely something to stay away from.

This is what drug abuse looks like.

I don't have time to read this whole thread but is Baby Tac still being obtuse?

Take an adderall, I read the first 8 pages (down to your post) and researched I-tyrosine due to a few posts in 2 minutes.

It’s amazing the amount of good info/news I get from SOME posters on this website.

I tried it once.

All it did for me was give me a headache. Didn't feel any more focused. 15mg time released.

You shouldn’t take it unless you actually have ADD. Side effect that I see most is diarrhea. I started it at about 45 yrs old when I saw my 12-yr old struggling with ADD like I did (wasn’t called ADD when I was a kid). I wasn’t interested in him taking something with psychotic effects so I asked my doctor about testing me for ADD. My wife is a teacher and we saw that kids on Ritalin seemed a little like zombies and vowed never to put our kids on anything like that. Adderall is not Ritalin.

My prescription calls for a 20 mg tablet twice/day. I usually only take one because two will make everything come slickin out. BTW, one 20 mg tablet only lasts 3 or 4 hours.

I have never taken more than the prescribed dose and have absolutely no psychotic effects from it. It just improves focus. I read a good description of what people with ADD experience as being like your mind is a white board and there is so much written on it, in the gaps, along the sides, etc., that you can’t focus on one thing. That was a perfect description of what I deal with. I had managed to learn how to deal with it before adderall. Maybe that’s why I don’t take it very much. The focus is something I realize after the fact, usually.

It will sharply decrease your appetite and thirst. It is a miracle drug for those who need it. I don’t know what “high” May result from overuse, and I’m not interested in knowing.

This is the best post in this thread I've read. Most of these other post are anecdotal or they took it for recreation or to study for a big test. There is no telling what dose they took etc.

If you have ADHD it is an effective treatment and helps very much with limited side effects. If you do not have ADHD then why they hell are you taking it? For anybody using this thread to come to a conclusion please try to filter out all the comments from people that took it recreationally or weren't prescribed it.

I’ve been on it for over 7 years. 20mg XR daily. I don’t think I’ve ever really noticed any negative changes or side effects over the 7 years that I’ve taken it.

Just like this thread, people (that weren’t actual medical professionals) kept telling me that “I am permanently dependent on it now” and that “I won’t ever be able to stop taking it again”

I stopped taking it for a few months last year to see what it was like (and make sure they weren’t right lol). After I stopped taking it, I had maybe 1-2 days of feeling “weird”. Not bad or anything, just slightly different. After that, it was just like being back to how I was before I was prescribed to it. No “withdrawal”. Just back to having the same focus issues I had before ever taking it.

Take a dose you actually need, as prescribed (don’t go popping extras just to go party), and you’ll probably be fine.

Another good post from someone who was prescribed it for a reason and used it properly. It can be a benefit when taken properly and in my experience does not induce dependence. Again don't use it as a performance enhancer or a recreational drug. Use it at a correct dose and you should be fine.

I took 54 mg of concerta reliably through high school and college. I’m 28 now and I do have ADHD. Stopped taking daily as a sophomore in college. Still took when I needed to study. Don’t take at all anymore.

My experience:
I didn’t eat anything if I took the pill in the morning. Lunch would be a slice of cheese. It was awful. I could always tell about 6pm when the effects wore off. Don’t recall ever having any sleep issues.

It certainly fricked with my personality. Don’t think I was irritable, but was definitely more quiet when on it.

If I didn’t take the pill for a day or two after daily usage, I would be extremely tired, I’m talking falling asleep at my desk.

I believe there are cases where this medicine is needed, but I’m generally way more skeptical about it now than I was before about it.

Eta I suppose it’s worth mentioning I was started at around 30 mg and upped to 54 after a while. Never felt addicted to it and was very easy to stop taking when I no longer wanted to take it.
