(CNN) - Here’s something Americans won’t be thankful for this Thanksgiving: turkeys might be more expensive and harder to find.
In the case of cost per pound, birds cost about 73% more now than they did last turkey day. The U.S. Department of Agriculture said that comes out to about $1.99 a pound compared to a $1.15 last year.

I was going to buy a turkey to smoke in my grill a few weeks ago and was shocked at the price. I had never purchased a turkey other than for Thanksgiving and thought the price was just high because it was not turkey "season".

A 50 # sack of 16% Protein Laying Pellets cost more than 20 bucks now.
They feed those meat birds 22% protein.
It’s out of control

I was at Breaux Mart in Metairie last night. There was a sign on the deli case explaining that there was "a nationwide shortage of turkey".
I wondered what had caused the nationwide shortage. Was there some type of turkey blight that affected supply? Had American consumers changed their meat preference to turkey, increasing demand? How is America suddenly short of turkey?

Putins turkey price hike

Why the shortage? Probably some vegan going around murdering turkey so meat eaters won’t have nothing to eat for thanksgiving.

Speaking of Turkey*, here’s a scene from there that is straight out of one of Owlie’s fondest dreams:
*not “Türkiye”, I’m still just getting comfortable with saying “Istanbul” for Constantinople, dammit.

Straight up price gouging. Bet you hardly anyone will have issues with supply.
Find some alternative this year and tell these meat packaging companies to shove it up their arse.

Does anyone expect these prices to go back down?

How do you apply the 16 cents savings from 4th of July last year?
