What political rhetoric bothers you the most?

The thing I hate most about election season is speeches using phrases that are supposed to be profound but actually mean nothing.
I'll start with:
"This election is about the Soul of the Nation!"
What does that mean?

Whataboutism.
Attack ads.
Don't tell me why I shouldn't vote for your opponent. I already know why I'm not voting for them. Tell me why I should vote for you.

So and so is a "Threat to our democracy."

The notion on both sides that the opposition is inherently "evil," as opposed to simply having different priorities and approaches.

I don't even care if something is a threat to democracy because democracy is mob rule. Start using "Republic" if you want me to take you seriously on the matter, and then don't call everything a threat.

"Let me be clear."
"Threat to our democracy."
All trigger phrases that tell me that what is about to ensue is total bull shite.

I am okay with whataboutism when talking about the media, which is supposed to be neutral and cover things in the same way.
From a political perspective, whataboutism is dumb because of course you will treat “your own” different than you treat your opponent.

OK Hank, but rhetoric is about words, use of language. It's not about intent. IE, when do politicians say "My opponent is inherently evil"? Never.

Literally anything about race. As soon as a politician starts bringing up equity or disenfranchisement, I know that they’re about to propose some kind of scammy bull that harms the law-abiding and aids the criminal.

No. Rhetoric is about language. I ask you 'give me your money' and you say 'no.' My rhetoric did not persuade you.
Then when I hit you over the head with a hammer you give me your money. You have been persuaded by the hammer with no rhetoric involved.

Anything that is said referring to them caring about the “American people” (at least the tax paying segment) is total horseshite and triggering.

No one complains about "whataboutism" (stupid word, by the way) more than hypocrites, who use that accusation as a shield against being called out on their own BS.

Check the current trending topic involving Joy Reid.
That.
They can't win, so they resort to name calling.

Democrats are evil, they support the murder of babies. I can’t abide that.

Well, there is only one side that has members that are ok with killing an unborn baby up to the point of birth, if that does not fit within your definition of evil then you don't know what evil means.
Oh yea, that side is also ok with mutilating the genitals of children, again if that does not fit within your definition of evil then you don't know what evil means.

Rhetoric is the application of language for persuasion. Anyone can use words for any number of purposes. Persuasion is what makes those words rhetoric.
